I struggle to sleep alot too!
Techniques that help me:
-Listening to calm, relaxing music
-Reading a fiction book (empties your mind of your own thoughts if you let yourself escape into the world of the book)
-Avoid technology (I find this difficult, lol)
-Think of a single word and repeat it over and over.
-Don't drink any caffine (tea, coffee etc). within an hour of going to bed/ sleep.

Think of how you feel on a morning when it's time to get up. When all you want is more sleep. Right now you have 8 hours!

Really why? And what else am I supposed to do for half an hour before bed lol?
I choose to shower and read before going to bed, often sitting outside in the hallway talking to flatmates.
Also if you ever get those nights where you keep thinking about stuff and can't get to sleep try clearing your mind repeatedly and taking deep breaths.

Well, when you encounter this problem it simply means your energy is not "completely used" in all of your daily activities.
I would just increase my work amount, and, NEVER take a nap unless you really need it.
