    End of week 6

This week I completed another Chemistry paper, and an entire FP1 paper!!!!

The chemistry was bad as I only got 41/60. I've changed this from 43 as I thought 2 of the marks I awarded myself were slightly ambiguous and I'd rather not be masturbatory with my marks so I feel good about myself, because on results day there'll be no self-back patting.

The FP1 paper was homework and I did it in the common room in 95 minutes, I didn't finish as I left out a 2 marker. I also mucked up on a proof by induction question involving a series ({r}/{r(r+1)}). I hope I got an A so my Decision maths teacher stops thinking I'm a total idiot and cus I think I've been taught really well this year so I want to make my FP1 teacher happy (which is really lame but I am grateful). I think I got somewhere between 60-69 marks on the paper. ·54, lol.

In terms of general revision, I've been watching videos on activity networks for the last 30 minutes so hopefully I should be good for D1 as well. I have also read over my notes for G482 and F322, and have decided that for module 2 of G482 and module 3 of F322 I am going to rewrite my notes. This isn't because they're bad or anything, but modules 1 for both are in notebooks and I'd like to have notes that are in a coherent order, I also get the added benefit of revising.

    OCR A
I am in year 13 and did chemistry ocr A last year. Let me say you doing one of the hardest exam boards for one of the hardest a level. Unfortunately my school have no good chemistry teacher which is why I didn't take it to a2. Which in hindsight, I should have. Good luck, you seem really motivated and you doing well, better then I was at this stage last year and I ended up with one of the best grades my year at my school. Keep it up! I'll be reading this.

    Upcoming mock-exam and exam period

I've decided on a date to begin revision, and that is Monday the 16th of March. I think I will have everything in place to get going without impeding my current studies by then, so I'm going to try and get really good AS grades. I can't get back the term I spent laughing on the benches and going to Morrisons during frees but I can try and make up for it
    .

Now I'm going to digress. I've been really stressed out by AS levels and managed to have my first breakdown in about 4 years which wasn't very exciting. Generally I've been happy though, I just felt like sharing here because I'd rather not worry my friends IRL, especially since I generally resolve any problems I have emotionally by myself without too much trouble, and because I have friends who are academically worse off and less motivated, so I think it's probably a good idea if I avoid talking about any issues I have in a way which would be seen as obnoxious. But this is part of my AS journey so I think I'm going to post it here so I don't kick back in A2 and think it was a total cakewalk, like I did after GCSE
Also some good news! Minus going to the gym, I cut out a lot of the stuff I did as an extra-curricular to get my AS-game up, but now I think I'm getting to a point where I can pick things back up again . I went to Muay Thai for the first time in a month last Thursday and I had forgotten how much fun it was (and why I was attending instead of cramming for exams last year). I normally eat well when I know I can go to Thai, so my diet's improved and I've generally been more alert over the last week. Over the Summer I'll try and have at least 1 inter-club as well as an in-house fight, so I'm going to try stay healthy so I build up to that.

That aside, I've decided that I am going to do a set of mini-mock exams at the end of next week for C1, D1, FP1, F321 and G481 next weekend (13-15 March). I predict that I'll get B, B, B, C, C respectively as a worst-case scenario. I know I can do physics, but I'm not very well practised because I focused on the other exams which I was weaker at (so just F321). There's no sort of "higher purpose" to this at all, it's literally just for kicks. And admittedly, if I get less than 75 UMS for any of the exams then the first 2 weeks of revision into my programme would be to address the issue.

Anyway unless something new comes up the next time I'll post is when I get my FP1 result back and whenever I do anything that isn't homework

If I could go back in time I would definitely have tanked this AS level and chosen Gov and Politics or Sociology. I can sort of empathise you, my teachers last year (or lack thereof) left me on the ropes when it came to my Chemistry exams, if that happened for AS I think I'd be seeing red. What A2s are you taking?

Also thank you! Keeping this blog updated is a drain on my time so it's nice to know at least a few people are reading it

I'm taking physics (ocr a, so I can try and help if you need) maths (edexcel) and economics (aqa, only reason I took it as it had better teachers then chemistry, however my teacher left and now I'm left with another **** teacher, should have done Chem )

That subject combination is exactly what I'd be doing for A2 if I didn't cut out econ and put in FM on induction day, how're you finding it so far?
Also what're you gonna after sixth form?

Today I've decided that I'm going to update my physics notes as well as complete the mixed exercise for Critical Path analysis from D1 as part of my "mock revision", and in preparation for my tracking test tomorrow. I've never really bothered with tracking tests but I've not really been paying too much attention for this module so I feel like I have a big enough motive to consolidate my learning tonight.

Why did you cut out econ? I'm finding everything fine, I think I'm set for the predicted grades for maths and physics but economics is a lot more work then I hoped due to my teacher.

I'm going to do mechanical engineering in Southampton hopefully and specialise in aerospace. What you planning to do? If you've decided

After I failed to attend induction days to 2 other sixth forms, I realised that the one I wanted to go to had option blocking which didn't allow further maths to be taken with economics, history, gov and pol so really it was me being lazy. It's just as well though because it seems like it would have been a lot more work than the subjects I'm taking now.

That's impressive! Mech Eng and especially Aerospace engineering is damn hard (well at least in my eyes) and Southampton's a good uni too so well done, any thoughts on careers afterwards?

I'm probably going to study maths at university or maths with economics as a dual degree because of overlapping interests (assuming that I don't mess up hard this year and the next of course)

Ahh I see, yer economics is a lot of essay writing and discussion skills, which I lack. I'm aiming to work for f1 or a company related to aerospace. It's difficult yes, but if you enjoy your physics and know your maths it's fine! Btw don't sweat on what you get in papers now, it's when it's April may, you worry. I was way below my actual grades in some subjects then what I acc got

Good luck with the F1/Aerospace stuff because it sounds hard but I think you'll be able to do it (well what I can gather from the 3 posts I've seen )

And thanks for the advice, it's just I've always wanted to make the most of every opportunity that's given to me (which sounds like a line ripped out of some year 11 sixth form application but it's true), as I've seen how others struggle and I count myself lucky.
And generally I just want to go above and beyond so I'll take stress as a side-effect any day if I can be at least a little bit successful in what I (try and) do

Good luck on that. If you need help in maths and physics just ask

Just found out that I have a mock retake along with the rest of my class for F321 Chemistry next Tuesday 17th March, as well as having a Chemistry Evaluative task on gas collection on Monday 16th March. So I think I'll be prepared. ·41/60 B and 7/15, U.

I'm struggling with C2 trigonometry, so I have to make time to review it and make sure I've got it straight. I think this is the first time all year I've had any trouble with anything from core maths. I will set things straight before the weekend is out though because it's not difficult, I just have terrible notes.

I'm running through a G481 paper today, I'm not doing it under exam conditions at all as I'm just trying to get a feel for the questions again before I do another "properly" this weekend (and maybe another with shorter time constraints later in the week).

    I marked the May 2011 G481. I scored 42/60, a scraped B.

I lost marks because I made calculation errors which I'm going to blame on a lack of concentration, I don't really care about cringey calculation mistakes because it was my first time looking at mechanics since my last post about the exam (I think the worst ones was degrees to radians). And I did do most of the paper during lunch whilst talking to my friends so I will take that score. There was 1 mark I awarded myself which was slightly ambiguous, so I'm going to ask my teacher. For now let's call it 42/60 rather than the 43.
There were 2 marks which I would have dropped if it were the real thing purely because I would not have thought of it, which by my standards is good.

I think this weekend under exam conditions I won't score less than 50, but hey ho I could be wrong. Hopefully G481 gets completely crushed and I can 100 UMS it

I'd rather not share any specifics, but GCSEs were 6/10 I'd say and I was a little disappointed, but that was mostly due to a lack of effort on my part, and thank you very much! I'll sure need it
