Sure, he's more confident than Ed. That doesn't necessarily mean he would have won the election.

It's also to speculative to say that Ed would've beaten Cameron in 2020. We just don't know. Also, there is very little false press. Only negative press of the kind that he got in the bacon sandwich incident.

Sure, you can be 'social' and Blairite at the same time because 'social' just means somebody who likes socialising. But to be socialist you need to have some sort of commitment to wealth redistribution and state ownership of industries, neither of which Blair was committed to.

Higher taxation does not equal wealth redistribution. Pro-welfare policies are social democratic, not socialist.

Has anyone else read The Establishment? It was really revealing how much influence the tories have without us being aware it's them talking.

Of course they are. There's no tactic too dirty or underhand for the Tories.

An argument stands and falls on its own merits. Not who's made it. The fact you're launching into personal attacks shows what your level is.

Believe it or not but Social Democracy used to be all about the transformation of capitalism to socialism but through reformist means rather than revolutionary means. Even then you got revolutionaries is Social Democratic parties.

That does actually ring a bell from my GCSE history lessons when we were looking at the positions of the various political parties on the best way to replace (or redeem) the Tsarist system in Russia...

The kind of social democracy I was talking about is the kind that they have in the Nordic countries. The Nordic countries have their own model where they use capitalism to generate wealth and then redistribute it in such a way as to promote social mobility (free higher education, healthcare and so on). They have fairly liberalised markets in those countries. Hardly the first thing one thinks of when one thinks of socialism.

Playing the man rather than the ball shows you don't have faith in the strength of your ideas.
No-one gives a toss about the man. He's a quite cheerful looking bloke with a beard who can at least string a sentence together better than Ed Miliband. It's barely even been mentioned that he's never had a real job in his life, after dropping out of technical college and going into the unions.

What people object to is his ideas, his beliefs, the sort of people who he supports and mixes with. That's why he's a disaster, and that's what the Tories will attack him on.

They will attack Corbyn mainly on his policy on Trident, as abandoning it will leave us in the same situation as Switzerland and Germany - likely to be wiped off the map.

Which of his ideas are so objectionable? Why is it OK for Cameron to mourn King Abdullah, for Blair and Brown to be pals with Gaddafi and the West to have been pals with Saddam and Mubarak but not for Corbyn to share platforms with Palestinians? It is funny how these scrupulous moral standards of one's company are suddenly being applied to Corbyn when the UK Government has readily associated itself with dictators who then become 'inconvenient' to associate with. One minute Gaddafi is a friend of Britain, the next he is an obstacle to liberty and must go.

See how hypocritical this all is?

Fair enough, he's not for everyone. What book would you recommend?

"A Tory source said Project Islington was dreamed up at Conservative Campaign HQ after a shock poll revealed Mr Corbyn’s huge lead in the race."
I would be very surprised. I suspect most Tories will be sitting down comfortably with a few cans of beer to watch the show for the next few weeks.

The key thing will be to try and turn question-time around so that all the questions become questions of Corbyn's policies down the years.

I think the only possible hand-grenade the Tories might throw is not appointing Corbyn a Privy Councillor.

I think Bollingers are more the preserve of Tories than beer.
