For Females Only: Do females engage in 'banter'? watch

Me and my friends tend to be very sarcastic/ mock each other when we make silly mistakes. With the sarcasm, its not the harsh type, but more like stating the obvious, or making up an obviously untrue scenario/ response, maybe even stating the opposite. I did have one friend who took banter too far though, she was just being racist with a sarcastic tone, which is common in my male friends, but for some reason is inoffensive (quite weird actually).

I reckon it differs across the sexes (if anything in my A2 psychology textbook can be applied here) because of the observed difference in friendships- females are supposedly more sentimental so brutal banter would be more crass, though banter works best in close relationships too which are also said to be more common in females, but thats just because a friends insults are obviously less hostile.

I dunno, I guess it's situational- I'd be offended if someone started picking apart things I am self conscious about, but friends would avoid these things in their banter....
