What are my chances with 680 average in ukcat and a*aa predictions

    Posted from TSR Mobile
Your prediction won't make a difference as long as you get above 3As.
Your UKCAT is decent. Last years cutoff was around 665. However no one can predict whether it will go up or not. It might be a risk. But it might be fine. You need to decide that. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

When will Manchester release the UKCAT cut off? Does everyone have to apply and then they release the cut off??

Yeah, I believe they release their cut offs in November when UKCAT release the scores I think. Apparently UKCAT release their averages in early October so that could make it easier to see if you're above average or not 😋

I'm considering applying to Manchester for A106 this year, but just concerned about my UKCAT score:

    GCSEs: 8A*s, 3As
AS: AAAA (I understand Manchester won't be looking at this though)
UKCAT: 670 average with a Band 1, although I don't think that Manchester looks at SJT score.

I understand with my average it may be a risk but considering last year's UKCAT had DA which some people have said boosted people's averages, do you think I will be able to make a strong application for this year? Thanks

You're right. It's a risk. Your score is around borderline and you won't know until the applications are sent off.

It all depends on how much you want to go to Manchester and if it's worth taking that risk. Are there any other med schools that you'd have a better shot at with your result?

Think up a backup and then re-evaluate before sending off the application in early October as UKCAT will hopefully release some stats then so you know how you did compared to everyone else.

What I will say is that over the last 6 years, your average would have been fine every year apart from the one year (2013/14 cycle) but the UKCAT scores were all higher and messed up that year so feel free to ignore that!

Thank you very much! Yeah I'm going to keep an eye on the stats released about the UKCAT this year, my form said they will release some in mid September but obviously it will just be based on people who've taken it so far. All the best if you're applying this year too

    No problem.

The interim stats that UKCAT will release in September should give you a little idea but wait for the final stats in October before the UCAS application deadline for the best info. Like I said though, no harm in thinking up a backup as well so when it comes to it, you have a few choices.

Thanks but I applied last year and will be starting at Manchester in just over a week!

Oh wow congratulations! The style of the course there seems brilliant, I hope it is! I will make sure to double check the stats before sending my application off, currently working on my PS and looking at which unis I may have a chance at. Enjoy medical school, well done to you!

Yeah I really like the idea of pbl. But yeah do a lot of research and apply smartly. With medicine a lot of it is about where you think you have a good chance of actually getting in. Thanks and good luck.

I would say it's extremely risky. And seeing the preliminary deciles scores seem higher this year.

Hi, congrats on your place! I was researching and reading around where i should apply this year, and came across this thread so i though i'd ask you since you've secured your place - maybe you could give me some advice please?

    My stats are:
    GCSE: 1A*, 7A
    AS: AAAA
    A Level: A*AA
    UKCAT: 763.3 avg; total 2290

I have some voluntary work in a charity shop which was for 6 months. I'm also volunteering at my local GP and have had 1 week work exp at a hospital, aswell as 3 days at Boots Pharmacy.
Since i'm on a gap year and reapplying, i have a part time job and also have an interview at a hospital for a job as a ward clerk. Applied for healthcare assistant ones but unfortunately didn't get those. I've also applied for volunteering at a hospice which will be more caring and suitable for manchesters requirements.

If you could please advise me on how strong my application would be and whether i will be okay with regards to caring work experience as i haven't actually started at the hospice yet - can i still put it on my ps that i'm planning to do that for the year? And also, what kind of things did you have for this as i don't know what else i could do

    Thanks!!
