    Aye.
I know most people don't bother reading them, but it gives us more space to say what we want to the few people who bother to read them.

I do not see a reason to oppose this. May be fun reading some of the longer manifestos for the "more extreme" parties.

    Aye.

Look at some of the beautiful manifestos made on the other place where there isn't a limit.

Yes I would, the shorter manifestos do little other than promote ambiguous proposals without much detail or costing. A second manifesto of unlimited length would be very good for writing out a full term's worth of proposals and policies, and would mean that parties/indies are held to account to a greater extent than they are already.

You do realise that there tends to be about a week for manifesto writing IIRC?

Well there's a lot that can be done in a week, my bill was researched, written and seconded in under an hour. My "one nation manifesto" was completed in even less time (though that's evident just from looking at it). With a week I could write one 450 word manifesto and a 3000-5000 word manifesto describing my short manifesto's policies and pledges in length.

Most parties start a month in advance...

Well there you go then, think of all that can be done in a month. and I'm only one guy, think of all that an entire party can do in a month.

No, we don't want to waste our precious time writing something no one will ever read or bore our voters to death in case it's somehow made compulsory in the future.

I'm not sure I would, unless I had a previous draft that was slightly too long, then I might be tempted to post it.

Given how much parties' compositions can change in the space of a term, it seems somewhat unfair to yoke the party at the end of the term to a whole list of policies decided at the end of the previous term, given people who were not about when the manifesto was written could be high-flyers by the end of term. (I don't envisage resigning the leadership before the end of next term, providing the party will have me, but I'm sure there have been cases where party leaders elected in the second half of a term were not around at the start of term. Airmed I think seemed to have a very quick rise to the top???)

I did. And I was thrown right into manifesto writing. It was..ahem, eye opening, to say the least. I was not around at the start of the term, however, so I had to catch up quickly on the stuff that MacDaddi had pledged.

That is why I feel that maybe manifestos are pointless. But them people would vote for the name which isn't any better.

There's nothing wrong with setting out a basic position and a few headline policies, and setting out the last term's achievements, but there is no point creating a long list, not only for the reasons stated above, but also because most voters won't be interested.

Would you be in favour of a ban on RL likenesses?

Aye, I like the idea of having a option to post a longer manifesto.

I can't say I have strong feelings either way. What would you call the Greens for example?
