I'm a french native, they say both "bon" and "joyeux" :yep:
But is there really a difference in the meaning? translate into English one-to-one 'bon anniversaire' means 'good birthday', while 'joyeux birthday' means 'joyful birthday'.

Okay, good to know. As a non-native and non-foreign French speaker, I have to trust you anyway. One more thing: are the French really to proud of their own language to speak English abroad, even if they have to?

    Indeed it's unfortunately true :/ !
I am a particular case (I'm polyglot by passion) but the French are daaaamn lazy to learn new languages , and most of us only know basic english. I think it's a shame lol
