I guess it depends on the person, you have to treat things on a case by case basis and not make sweeping generalisations. Some people are not ok with cheating flat out and that's fine. Personally I'm not a fan of it, if somebody cheated on me I would not be able to look at them the same way again and I would question the relationship's integrity.
I don't think it should be used as a point of reflection, if you cheat, that is a clear sign that you're not comfortable with just your partner anymore and that can be hurtful to the opposite person. And for that, I'm not a fan of it. -
