I've given blood about 6 or 7 times. I'm also in the most common blood group (O positive) so I try to go as often as I can.

    http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Blood-d...an-use-it.aspx

My medical condition isn't on there but I couldn't anyway, l don't weigh enough maybe in a few years. Not that far from the minimum.

I believe it's around a pint of blood.

The Blood Group say in their leaflets that it is sometimes used for research yes, but the primary use is for blood transfusions and as such.
Ah I see. I probably wouldnt meet the weight requirements due to low BMI anyway.

I've donated a few times. I've tried a few times since I moved to a different city but their blood donation centre has kind of ridiculous opening hours, every time I've been it has been shut. IMO if you're willing to receive blood then if you are able, it makes sense to give it. It gets handed out to all sorts of people in hospital all the time and does them the power of good.

Anybody who is prone to feeling faint should just chug the water and eat the biscuits offered, that should sort most people out!

I would be the ideal candidate. Perfectly healthy, don't drink, smoke or do drugs, no tattoos or piercings.

But my severe phobia of needles stops me doing anything of the sort Typical eh
I really want to find out what my blood type is as well!

I can't. I was really excited to, and I signed up and everything, before realising that I'm not allowed.

I've been with my boyfriend for 4 years (my first boyfriend I should add), but because we're gay we're a HIV risk.

It's funny because I know someone that donates and is sleeping with different people every weekend, but she's not considered a risk.

Just one of those things I guess.

I haven't. Not sure if I would want to tbh. Although it would be quite cool having your blood in someone else. Just make an army.

I KNOW RIGHT. So pathetic. Well, if they don't want my blood, then too bad... I find it insulting actually.

Don't weigh enough, have medical conditions you can't with and don't think you can with my medication either. That and I'm absolutely terrified of needles, so not sure as I'd be the best person really

As the title reads, have you given blood? My girlfriend went today for the first time and said she nearly fainted (although that was because she hadn't managed to eat enough as she was working just before.) I'm thinking of going in the future!

Will you be going in the future? Can you give blood? Are you put off doing so?
I've given blood twice before, first time was alright, second time I threw up. Just remember to have a lot of water an hour before going and try to avoid exercise

One time wanted to but was not allowed because I had surgery beforehand. Maybe one day I will, even though I'm very scared of pain

It is super messed up that this is a rule. Like you pointed out there's no special reason why somebody who has 'risky' sex wouldn't be a straight person either!

If you read they actually already test all bags of blood for HIV:
    https://www.blood.co.uk/the-donation...-we-carry-out/

So it does make you wonder what the hell they're on about. I hope this changes soon.

:O in UK gay people cannot donate ??
In France they can ! They just test the blood before ofc, but like everyone else :dontknow:
My friend is gay and could donate a couple of times.
I am pretty shocked you could not actually :O that is very weird ! Sorry you could not btw :/

Yes. Involuntarily after getting punched in the face couple times.

    (Original post by Inexorably)
    Yes about 5/6 times.

Never fainted or had many problems.

I haven't been for a while but I really should, especially as my blood group is O- (it's universal donor so every blood group can receive O- and thus it's always massively in demand).
-vampire voice- Give me your blood.
