Yeah, so? Slight difference though - Halo is a first party game and Microsoft has a vested interest in it remaining on their own console to shift units. Third party publishers like Konami aren't trying to compete in the hardware market (while MS and Sony currently lose money on consoles, don't forget how much they can make through their networks, royalties and through advertising) and so its a risk releasing a game on one console. Hence why they jsut announced multi-platform Silent Hill V. Besides, what do I lose as a 360 owner if a game like Bioshock comes out on PS3? Nothing. I can understand why a manufacturer wants to keep a game exclusive, but the only reason a consumer would is because they might feel they made a bad purchase if they could have played the same game another (maybe cheaper0 way.
no arguments here, you were just making out like ps3 is the bad guy here when in fact every console has it's exclusives

besides, you were asking in what way does it benefit us, the consumer. mcrosoft having a vested interest in keeping it exclusive in no way benefits me.

each console is out for it's self

edit: oh and one more thing, as a potential ps3 consumer i would hate to see a game that was being developed for the cell architecture suddenly be simplified to work on the 360. theres one genuine advantage: exclusives make the best use of the hardware

'Simplified'? What like the superior looking Virtua Fighter 5 with online play for 360? Tbh so far I've only seen first party games show any sign of even attempting to get to grips with the Cell architecture

Except my point is that Virtua Fighter was pretty much finished by the time they announced a 360 version. So the 360 development did not have any effect on the PS3 version, yet the 360 version will be better. I believe that only a small proportion of developers will ever use the Cell to its full extent. Those that do will be mostly first party games, of which exclusivity is never in doubt, for 3 reasons - Sony provide them with more money because they see these games as system shifters rather than merely sources of revenue (the only source of revenue for third parties), secondly because such an intimate relationship with Sony means they are given the best tools and guidence in making the most of the technology, and thirdly because all their energy will be focused on one machine and they will gain more experience with one set of tools and hardware.

well then they were pretty **** at utilizing the cell in the first place if they could last-minute port it so easily. they never had any intention of using the cell properly, you simply cant get a 6+threaded program to run in 2 or 3 cores without making heavy sacrifices.

my main point tho was that xbox has general purpose hardware that lends it's self nicely to general purpose programming. the ps3 has highly specialised hardware that unless you use it properly will not look as good as the 360

It's not a last minute port, it isn't even finished yet. Development started on a 360 version as the PS3 version was finishing up, and it remains in development (clearly the total development time will be shorter for 360 because they already have the basic code, assets plus 360 is more familiar architecture). You are right that the PS3 is more specialised, but just because something is specialised doesn't mean it has to be a hog to develop for. It's simply not that well designed (this is the opinion of every coder I spoke to at the third party developer I worked for last year), even if you can get it to pump some nice stuff if you have the same time and resources as those that are going into Killzone 2 and GT 5 (you think Ubisoft could afford to spend so long financing even a multiformat game, let alone an exclusive?)

well i am a programmer and one of the first things im going to do when i get a ps3 is start playing around with the cell. to me it seems like an immense platform to develop for. challenging, yes... but no one got anywhere new by repeating the same old stuff over and over

What can you use for programming the PS3? I can't remember what software they give you (like on the PS2 there was something like 'Yaruze')

Another xbox 360 vs ps3 argument? Everyone knows that the ps3 is WAY too expensive and sony know that too. The ps3 bring out some pathetic virtual life "home" as a 'competitor' to xbox live. Hah - give me a break.

I guess the words 'price cut' don't mean anything to some people... (though techincally it isn't a price cut, they are just offering a better value package for the same price)

ok firstly home is not the ps3 equivalent of live, thats PSN. home has no 360 comparison. PSN is free, live is not. yet somehow you think that this is just a pathetic attempt at imitation?

also, how much time have you spent playing with home? all of about 0 hours? just **** off with your unfounded fanboyvomit will you? if you are so confident in the 360's ability to own this generation, why, may i ask, are you so insecure as to bash the opposition at every opportunity with lies and fud?

Completely unsurprised that your post had nothing to do with mine. Grow up and learn to read.
Excuse me, you were making a general statement about ps3 being third in sales, as if it was any less of a console than your beloved 360. Hence I was proving a point that there is a reason for this. As far as the "money wasted" goes, haha, buy a DVd the day it comes out, then compare it to the price 6 months later, everything depreciates. The US got a good 7+ months of gaming before the drop in price.

Now stop pointing out the negative points of the ps3, and I might not retaliate with a negative point about the 360's shoddy sales. The reason I am replying is because people come on these forums to do research and see how everyone feels about the console, etc. I'm not going to let someone ruin the reputation of a console., let alone give someone any reason to not buy it.
