The opening ceremony had 1/12 the budget of London, 1/20 the budget of Beijing, i don't think we could expected to be blown away.

I have to say though, i certainly did enjoy the beginning with the drummer bags and the elastic band tribal people. I think the use of digital images / projections was pretty smart considering the budget, but it did kind of fizzle out towards the end.

Now the big question. Do i go to bed, or do i stay up and watch however long of country introductions just to see the cauldron get lit?

It is in alphabetical order for Portuguese which is the official language for Brazil.

There is a budget of £11m, the money could be spent on a giant firework display along Copocabana beach if Brazil wanted to impress the world, this ceremony looks like it had a budget of £1000.

I really enjoyed learning about Brazil's history! It was really good!

What happens after all the countries are introduced? Does it end - can I go to bed then?

Normally some procedural stuff and several speeches, then the cauldron finally gets lit.

Expect a long wait though, i reckon another 2 hours or so before we get to the cauldron.

(Not sure about the order but...)

    Speeches by dignitaries

Athletes, coaches and officials take oaths of fair play, etc.

    Lighting the cauldron.
