Oh - I did go with pentesting and ethical hacking for a while. For hacking, unfortunately or fortunately a wide variety of languages is needed. Again, depends on what you want to do. All hackers at least have a moderate understanding of scripting languages such as Python, Perl and .... as they are absolutely crucial to automating the programs that they use. For coding payloads, making viruses and hacking in general, all companies if not most look for experience in C as it really goes to the deeper levels of computer science and binds quite well with hardware like Ras Pi, Arduino and ...

BTW, if you are interested, Null Byte is the best source for free hacking tutorials and another website which I will dig out of my bookmarks.
So in overall, alot of experience in languages like C and oh I nearly forgot =- networking - a MUST. TCP/IP, Stacks, Packets and ...

    Resources
Null Byte - hacking in general. LOTS OF INFO
Cybrary - free video tutorials and partnership with Cisco and more =- pentesting, networks and more

    Check them out!

    (Phew)
Thanks!!! Yeh, I've been looking into networking and that kinda stuff as obviously it's a big thing! I remember back at school, I totally did not write a script which messed up someone's laptop until they launched a certain file... He was not FURIOUS as he had nothing to be furious about!

And cheers for those resources, will definitely check them out!

So for that group alone I can think of like 5 basic web tools that I could have made which would have made everything a lot better and more efficient. Also I made a points system for myself to help me with personal goals. Turning that into a web tool would be nice.
You seem like you are fit for the job
Also, try to make everything easier for yourself by using programming. Think of sample projects. Solve problems. Turn that into a web tool and then expand it. Make a GUI for it. Add more features. Turn it into a collaborative project on Github/Gitlab. Improve. Improve. Impove.

Turn all ideas into projects. You never know - you might become the person who has a million dollar idea and turned it into something everyone uses.

Where did Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and people like them start from? From where you and me are in. Keep going and never give up. And by the way, we are all here to help.

Thanks!!! Yeh, I've been looking into networking and that kinda stuff as obviously it's a big thing! I remember back at school, I wrote a script which basically restarted a laptop, and continually did this unless you launched a porn video which also launched the kill command... Disguised it as a word doc as some homework which I sent to someone... He was FURIOUS

And cheers for those resources, will definitely check them out!

Haha, fairs, I love the contest side of things because then it spurs me on, however, does mean my sleep is severely reduced from what it already is, because I just want to get going with it... Turn it into a webtool!!!!!!! DO IT!!!!
I'm totally the same  When I get the bit between my teeth, I don't want to do anything else until I've finished that goal.
That's actually what got me interested in coding, actually. It was when I spent about 12 hours a day over 2 months making a badge system for my group that I began to ask 'wait... why am I so motivated to work these kinds of hours now when I struggle to sit down and even spend an hour writing my PhD'?

Cool script by the way - I once turned off all the computers in the school using a vulnerability in IPV6 and a Rasp Pi. https://samsclass.info/ipv6/proj/flood-router6a.htm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EAnjZqXK9EOh - also check out DEFCON on youtube and get a hands on experience by dual booting Kali or installing Kali in a virtual machine if you are serious about it.

Haha nice Yeh, I've got Kali on a VM, but haven't really used it much - need to check out tutorials for everything on there, just haven't really got round to it yet!

Lets hope so! Worst case scenario I just end up being able to tweak web content, and that's already making me a trillion times more employable than I was before :sigh: But yeh... I do like making my own fixes to practical issues, and I am a very practical person. I'm always trying to 'hack' my life

Yeah sure - I've still got a long way to go. And by the way I started with these two links. http://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/for...acker-0159816/ http://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/how...acker-0154509/

    Good luck!

P.S: I'm sure you know more than me anyway.

    Thanks for those links!

And haha, definitely not! Usually I'll want to do something and just try and do that and go off on tangents rather than systematically learning to do things properly, and usually botch something together that works(ish)

Ahh yeh, that's my main thing really...
I forgot... have you tried looking for sites that match you to non-profit projects? That's the nice thing about FreeCodeCamp... they find projects for you to work on as you go, in order to help charities etc. So that might solve the issue of not being able to think of things to practice on?
