People need to start realising that taking over a city =/= continuing the religious or cultural legacy of something
    Okay, JohnGreek.

It wasn't just "taking over a city"; the Eastern Roman Empire (as they were called at the time) were no more after that. The Ottomans then inherited many things from the Byzantines, from their political setup to the design of their mosques (which resembled the churches of the time).

And yet there are many things that were fundamentally different across the two empires, which, lest we forget, had been in conflict for most of their existence. These included the feudal system and the role of the sultan/emperor in divine terms. It's one thing to suggest that the Ottomans replaced the Byzantines, and another thing entirely to suggest that they succeeded them. No idea why people are rushing to prove the validity of yet another silly "prophecy".

Btw thanks for the reference to my name, I'm amazed at how people still try to attack the person rather than their points.
