It's pointless attempting to censor anything. It takes ≤60 seconds to circumvent any block.
This is what happens when technologically illiterate people are in charge of making related laws though.

Yeah, but it's just a click of a button.
Someone who is 16 can click the button and enter the site.
So by your logic the government should get rid of all rocks, because well all a kid has to do is pick it up and throw it off a bridge onto cars. Just a lifting and letting go.

Yes 11.Right about the onset of puberty then really. They are probably exposed to porn at that age because they want to see it and hence go looking for it.Its not like you turn a computer on and porn just pops up is it?. You generally have to actively search for it
by this logic if an 11 year old child went out looking for sex its ok for adults to abuse them..

    (Original post by Robby2312)
And what exactly gives the government the right to censor anything it doesn't like?
This is an incredibly ignorant question. What gives the government the right to 'censor' and control smoking adverts? or racism? or drug abuse? or rape? or any other form of perversion/criminality?

The basic function of a government is to put laws into place that insure domestic tranquility, as in peace and justice. Importantly, we elect governments to act as an authority on our behalf. So they represent us in what they do.

That is the worst comparison i have ever read in my life. it is illegal in this country for kids to throw rocks off bridges onto cars...so in way they have already addressed the thing you've brought up as a comparison in your comment but in a less crazy way.....cringe worthy compression taken from the simpsons' lisa argument against her dad's 'facetious reasoning' on getting rid of bears...it doesn't really work here.

I never met a woman who watched porn.
99.9% of porn is male audience.
Well, now you've met one - girl over here who watches porn to get off, and who deliberately searched it out from about 14 onwards (so for the last four years), and whose brain was coming up with some pretty graphic scenarios even before I'd seen any. Same as about 60% of my friends. Whoever thinks that girls don't get horny obviously don't know many girls that well.

Hell no, the government has no right to censor anything. Freedom of expression should be pushed to the maximum it can do, because that's where culture and by extension society, flourishes. Look at the renaissance or the golden age of culture under Wiemar Germany. When you start censoring things culture starts to go down hill and it pulls the rest of society down with it.

There's also the fact that its subjective in nature, censorship stems from things like hate speech, offensive material. But what exactly this sort of material is is completely open to interpretation. Who interprets this? The government of the time, from there its not too big a step to start targeting your opponents, and that's where government becomes tyrannical and abusive.

TLDR - Censorship full stop is bad and dangerous, the government has no place telling me what i can and cant create as long as its infringing upon the rights of others.

So, let me get this straight, you think the government shouldn't censor child porn?

Child porn should not be created in the first place as it infringes upon the rights of the child's body, because they can not give consent.

aha but people create it anyway and the government censors it and you think the government shouldn't censor ANYTHING because "censorship is FULL STOP BAD AND DISGUSTING"

Alright, I'll rescind that. They should not censor anything that does not violate the rights of others

Edit - Since you edited your post i'll edit mine
But all in all, censorship is a bad thing in the vast majority of cases. The only real historical examples of censorship are tyrannical regime s such as Nazi germany or Soviet Russia. The best cultures in the world right now are western cultures, the ones that have minimal amounts of censorship while regressive cultures such as Saudi Arabia or North Korea are totalitarian states where speech and expression are restricted.

As Andrew Brietbart once said "culture is upstream from politics" so if you have a culture of censorship, and one viewpoint with stifled debate then thats what you're going to get in your politics, leading to one party states, and we all know how they turn out.

It's fine as it is with the age limit, if someone is legal age, whatever they do behind closed doors is no business of the state, unless it is hurting someone against their will.

Our point of argument in this thread is that pornography is a violation of the rights of others. I think that its form of sexual exploitation.

If one is pressured into doing the video, then yeah. Though in the industry that is a rare occurance, it rarely happens at all. If they consent doing the video its fine. As for watching it, you choose what you expose yourself to, your rights are not being violated if you watch porn. In regards to children, it should be up to the parents to decide if they want their child to watch porn not the government.

    I do.
Saudi Arabia and Iran censor porn sites. In Western countries, freedom of speech applies and people have to right to watch porn.

I wasn't really referring to the people who do pornography. I believe them to be the victimisers and not the victims.

Consent does not legitimise an act. Let me put this issue of consent into perspective for you. Taking drugs is a personal choice too. I mean a drug addict will choose to buy drugs from a drug dealer. That does not legitimise the act of drug taking nor does it absolve the drug dealer of their responsibility for exploiting drugs/addiction for financial gain.

In a sane society parents are allowed to raise their children as they wish BUT within the confines of the law. As in, parents are not allowed/given the choice to abuse their children.

    It shouldn't be legal.
    Pornis destructive.
it destroys the minds of it's viewers.
I am a man, you as a woman should be the first to be against porn as it objectifies women.

Where did I say child abuse was ok? I said its ok for them to watch porn not to actually do it.And all those things are harmful no one has conclusively proven porn to actually be harmful to the people watching it.Its a lot of moral outrage over nothing.
