Obviously the courts would have to be reasonable and not impose unusual punishments such as caning etc. That could be a condition on their very existence, that they don't contravene the human rights act.
There's not point of them in the first place. If Muslims want to deal with things Islamically, they go to Saudi.

despite Indonesia being a largely Buddhist Christian and Hindu country.
    (Original post by Ambitious1999)
Indonesia is largely Buddhist and Hindu country but the Indonesian region Aceh has its own sharia laws and sharia police. So if two systems work there they can work anywhere.
Can't believe nobody has picked upon on this massive error yet.
Indonesia is a Muslim majority country where 87.2% of the population is Muslim and is world's most populous Muslim country.

India has separate personal laws (but not criminal laws) for the Muslim community , Hindu community and Christian community. India has Sharia courts for personal matters as well although they operate all over the country.
It has not been a success. It has created many issues between communities and even Muslim women groups in India call for Sharia courts to be banned.

It's only loonies and terror sympathisers who would seriously consider this stupid idea

There's been plenty of articles on how bad Sharia courts actually are. I read somewhere about a Muslim woman who was beaten black and blue by her husband and when she went to the Sharia court the judge did nothing but tell her to obey and please her husband. Felt sick reading it.

You should look up Savile Town in Yorkshire. It's really not that different from a Sharia zone and it's bloody disgusting.

This thread is simply inflammatory with the intention of fuelling the bigoted sentiment that Muslims are taking over and are going to instil Shariah. No, there have not been "a lot of calls for Shariah zones". Muslims make up 5% of the population and out of the 5%, how many have actually pushed for Shariah zones? Once calculated, most likely less than 1% of the UK population has called for it, so this topic is pointless and has a clear agenda.

Nope. He's pointing out the extraneous apostrophe in "ices" and asking why Italians ice cream vendors have taken to wearing desert clothing.

No. You can't have different systems for different neighbourhoods.

I'm going to enforce a law on my street where everyone has to wear a comically large sombrero or be subject to a vigorous head-stomping. But it's okay for me to assault people like that because it's my law.

Well if its in the Daily Fail it must be true. Probably paid someone to dress like that.

A bit like how the gutter press and channel 5 portray benefit claimants. They pay a benefit claimant to say they are mega rich and lend them a Porsche, designer clothing, Armani suit, huge plasma screen TV and tell them to say they don't want to work.
Or they interview an Olympic standard gymnast and get them to say they're on disability benefit because they're bedridden. Then it comes on TV or in the paper and the gullible bigoted people actually believe it and call on their Tory MPs to abolish the benefits system and abolish disabled benefits.
Result thousands of people being sanctioned, bedrooms taxed, many disabled not entitled to benefits homelessness, poverty, starvation.
That's how dangerous the gutter press is....
