Thought I'd help a bit more (no I'm not avoiding revision!)

Goo Goo Dolls - Big Machine
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_K45w4oRNE

    Yellowcard - Miles Apart
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksm-wuwep7M

Regina Spektor - On the Radio
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSJQ1St1OnQ

All her songs are so different though, you'd need to listen to a few to see if you like her. She defines genre!
I like Regina Spektor! Thankss, I wasn't too keen on Goo Goo Dolls or Yellow Card. Hopefully I'm filtering what I'm looking for by these replies

Blues ftw BB King - Thrill is gone/how blue can you get. Is a good start but Seasick Steve, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Johnson. And then move on to blues influenced stuff The Noisettes are awesome but under appreciated.

Los Campesinos! Upbeat, glockenspiel, battling vocals, witty lyrics. Come on, what's not to love?

    http://www.myspace.com/loscampesinos
thanks for this also! It's quite good, it's different to what I listen to obviously so yeah, I'd have to explore some more tracks of these guys.

Btw, I know i'm being picky guys but understand from Hip Hop and RnB to this sort of stuff it's a reaaaaaal big change  The only reason I never had a more eclectic music taste is because I had no idea where to start.

I love people like Raul Midon too.

Awesome! Did you see Chris when he toured in April? He's back with the full band in November-ish I think anyway, and new album is out soon Not so big a fan of Death Cab though, but I can listen to them

And OP, if you like Regina Spektor then you might like other female vocalists like Imogen Heap or Rachel Yamagata, all of whom are wonderful

will give these guys a listen when I have the time.

I guess it's easier when you provide the youtube links cos I can quickly tab them and listen in the background, but for the other guys I'll give them a search etc.

    thanks for your replies

Here's the deal, I'm mostly into RnB, Alternative Hip Hop, Rap etc etc.

I'm looking to spread my wings, I like alternative genres, I want to open my mind to more music, I love music and want something new to listen to.

So, convince me, post your favourite songs of different genres that you think would convince me to listen to that sort of music more often.

I like addictive melodies, I enjoy banging beats, I like pianos and strings.

Do you get it? I'd love to see what you can post.

P.S- No Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Grime or Dance music. No Garage, I have a fair share of a lot of this music too. NO INDIE MUSIC EITHER.

Have you ever listened to Iranian or Arabic music! Its very nice!!

No I didn't! I wanted to but couldn't get tickets. Grrrr.

Personally I like the Postal Service better than Death Cab, it's the same singer, but they're a bit more upbeat IMO.

And on the theme of women singers, Kate Bush is always a good bet.

It's not very fashionable because it's quite old but Choral Music is amazing.
Amazing string sections, piano and organ parts with wonderous harmonies and melodies.

Check out anything by Benjamin Britten - especially his War Reqiuem, anything by Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Charles Ives, Daniel Pinkham & Meredith Monk.

Ahh, this is quite good! I like it, see that's the thing, tags like this "female fronted metal gothic metal inspiring jlunarepowerful jtn metal power metal symphonic metal " would put me RIGHT off, but I like this, it's a little bit heavy but it's the different type of thing i was kind of looking for
Yeah, tags like that can be weird, but when you know what it means, it's nowhere near as bad. It amounts to female singer, played quickly, and some classical music or singing there.

    http://www.last.fm/music/Lunatica/_/...ge+Of+infinity

Try that for something a little lighter.

    http://www.last.fm/music/Lunatica/_/Who+you+are

Or you can try that one too. The friend I mentioned who liked the same as you. That's her favourite song now. She can't stop listening to it
