1. for the PPM i had

(0.0014/100) x 1000000 (1 million) =
14ppm

14/1000 to get the ratio = 0.014ppm

I got completley lost on the Nitrogen thing. As it said about how much more nitrogen is at the surface of venus compared to earth. I lost it completely and just did 3.5/78.

What did you guys get for the alcohol to bromobutane stuff. I got 2.7g for the 100% yield and 6g for the 45% yield?
woop, i got exactly the same as yours for all of it! ..i hope its right haha

LOL
Yeaah but I cant help myself, did soo poorly. Thank God for retakes. Amen
As you say though, one exam left (Biology).. THEN SUMMER BEGINS
Haha retake?
I'm in A2. It's win or lose for me
BUT ANYWAY!!!!
No stress <yeah right. I'm very scared now>

Why did you multiply by 1,000,000? To get from % to ppm, you multiply by 10,000.
Were were taught

PPM = (Trace substance/Total substance) x 1000000 (1 mill)
4. (Original post by cpdavis)
Yes and no, yes to the PPM conversion so that you can work with it. But no because you had to divide it my 1001, not 1000.
Oh, sorry, I did do that. Although it did round to the same thing as if you just divided by 1000.

Separating technique: distillation
tap funnel thing: separating funnel

For an A, it's min. 80% of 150 when the raw marks get converted to UMS marks...

Noo it wasnt distillation, that was the second one yeah? The first one was in two distinct layers so.... yeah

So okay but rawmakrs go up yeah? So like 80 percent raw marks is normally say 84 percent in the ums?

Well yeah, because the first thing is just a ratio between two things, so has no units. But if you're going from a percentage, you need to multiply by 10,000.

The ppm, I got the conversion wrong, but you had to divide by 1001 (to find one part)

For the nitrogen thing, I did the same thing as you, but I don't know that it is right from looking at this thread!

I also got does answers for the yield question
8. Stop stressing about the exam now.
You done it. It's over.
You can't change anything so what's the point about thinking about it?
Well done for trying your best.
Well done for putting the effort in. It's nearly the holidays.
You've earned a rest no matter what grades you get
but for now you should concentrate on your other exams.

We should all have a party now!!!

No stress <yeah right. I'm very scared now>

So you've already taken it then? what did you get last time?

Nope, As Unit 2 Bio.
Hate Chemistry now

Its ok it works

PPM = (Trace substance % / Total substance 100%) x 1000000

haha i can party on wednesday after ive done my last exam (C2 eugh) and biol2 2mzi but i think your message is very true and made me smile so thanx for that

The last equation I got that Venus's Nitroggen was 4.06 I think times greater than the Earth's.

Earth

1 atm x 78% = 78

Venus

91 atm x 3.5% = 318.5

318.5/78 = 4.056

= 4.06 times greater.

But I haven't got a clue if it's right. Thought the wording of the questions was pretty crap, I didn't really know what they wanted!
That's right.

Yeah sorry, I know.

a) using the funnel

distillation was another question i was thinking of. Sorry

i dont think they wanted a technique for the funnel question.

i said. use a separating funnel. as bromoethane is of lower density creating a layer above the more denser liquid. the denser liquid beneath bromoethane can be tapped off.

My dear, if I told you that you would be very disappointed in me
16. Sorry i know somebody has probably said that but what was the agreement on the nitrogen concentration? I did 3.8/78 all multiplied by 90 but i dont think that can be right....... but i reckon it is an answer greater than one?

Also for the one about deutrium to hydrogen i did 1/1001 not 1/1000 - do you reckon that will matter?

haha im sure i wouldnt you have no idea how bad i am at chem so i wouldnt be disappointed at all, i promise

Unit one I got a very high A
In this exam last year I got a C, (2 marks off a B )

and in the coursework I got a D!

That was purely because the teacher didn't ever tell us when we'd have it and
I didn't even know it was coursework at the time

So yeah... it ended up being a high C overall.

Now I need overall 70 UMS more (I've still got 2 more chemistry exams to do and from this as well) to get the B I need to get to uni.

Bet you wished you didn't ask me now that you've heard that long winded speech sorry!

I hope it does go down. I found the Jan exam easier and got 95% when I did it as a mock but I have not done well in this one. I really wish my school had let me do the Jan exam for my resit.
I have a feeling though that they might make it about 70-74 for an A. Somehow, my chemistry teacher predicted every question that was going to come up, and it did. Scary
