Cool, thanks! I seen that, just seems a little time consuming and fiddley

It is, much easier (and quicker!) doing it by hand. The only other plus side is that it can solve simultaneous equations, quadratic and cubic equations, which is very handy if you are finding it hard to find a factor and then divide etc., you can find all three factors and then work from there, if you had to show working.

7. Does anyone know how to do part b? I'm getting the wrong limits everytime, thus my final answer is also wrong.

That's what I got

Tried to explain in as much detail as I could :P

I know how to do part c already, but thanks anyways. Do you know how to do part b?

I'll do part b for you now

Please ignore the terrible diagram >_>
13. Hi.

So basically i wanted to know whether we need to know how to do part B for edexcel spec i haven't really come across those area questions apart from solomon papers.

3. Relative to a fixed origin O, the point A has position vector 3i + 2j – k, the point B has position vector 5i + j + k, and the point C has position vector 7i – j.

(b) Find the exact value of the area of triangle ABC. (3)

Asking us to calculate the area with just 3 position vectors. No lines intersection etc. Just assume the triangle as they all come from 0 so we can draw that. part A was calculate the cosine of triangle ABC pretty straight forward.
Just wanted to know whether part B is in the spec otherwise i wont bother with doing those questions wasting my time. If we need to can someone please give me a good method to do that. 1/2ABsinC etc

It's from the Pearson/Heinemann textbook, lol :P

Thanks a lot. How did you get the limits 0 and 2pi? I got three limits: 0, pi and 2pi, and I didn't know which ones to use.

Because it's an ellipse xD

The diagram they've drawn it on is a cast diagram if you don't already know.

The whole diagram is from 0 to 2pi

That's how I knew the limits

And... the limits are stated in the question itself

Read the line where it says the ellipse is a parametric equation etc

It says theta is between 0 and 2pi
