:ditto: Wenger does deals under the radar all the time.
I understand why deals like suarez would take a long time but surely other deals wouldn't take this long? And if they were anywhere near advanced stages they'd be in the media right? It just feels like they're putting the majority of their efforts into suarez

It's possible other deals are predicated on a deal for Suarez. If we put an outlay of £25m on Bernard, for example, it might limit our ability to capture a marquee signing.

There are plenty names in the media. Bernard was heavily linked. Luis Gustavo was linked recently. Cesar has been linked all summer. The truth is that it's hard to tell what's going on with Wenger and the way Arsenal conduct business (and to be honest, I like that professionalism) but thinking back to recent deals... Cazorla we didn't know about until very soon before. Monreal we didn't hear about until the deadline day and that deal was months in the pipeline.

I'm frustrated too, because I want stuff to happen, but I'm also looking at reports that Arsenal just bid £40m for a player in the media and am pretty confident for the first time in a long while that Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board are serious about making the team improve in a big way. We're not selling (apart from Santos and Gervinho, both of whom I'd have paid to leave) and we are looking to add to the squad. It's good news, guys.

As Abiraleft said, we're not likely to know what's going on so we can just mindlessly speculate to our heart's content, but as frustrating as this is at least the situation is a) we're definitely doing stuff in the market, and b) we're talking about the potential addition of a player of immense quality, not the sale of our best player.

For £40m I'd ask Lewandowski how he liked London (although I'm not sure if there's a pre-contract agreement with Munich already).

Lewandowski is best mates with Szczesny/Podolski and anybody would love to live in London tbh.

Been thinking that since Dortmund are going to take a huge hit on Lewa to save face vs Bayern, we could step in and take him for say 20m. Lewa could sign a contract with a get out clause if Bayern ever came in for him. There a horrible atmosphere at BVB apparently with everyone knowing Lewa is unhappy, so this way everyone is happy. Arsenal get Lewa for at least a season, BVB get 20m and theyve already signed his replacement and Lewa plays in the EPL while keeping his FCB options open. Obviously its not ideal with Lewa likely to go to FCB eventually, but he might come to enjoy playing for us and forget about them. Plus he's still on a pittance at BVB so he'd get a huge pay rise a year earlier too. Whilst there are so few top strikers about, I'd say it would be a great deal for a top top striker.

Podolski and was known to socialise with Polish bundesliga players and Koln/Dortmund are about 30 minutes drive away from each other.

Lewa played in the Poldi vs Mert charity match this summer for example.

I'd absolutely love Lewa though, definitely up there with Suarez and half the price and aggro.

How do you come up with these things? Because they sat next to each other on a bus once? ...

Lewandowski would be a great signing for you though.

No Lewa played in Poldi's charity match this summer('Podolski and Friends'), so this is a strong indication that they are on good terms at least. IIRC Lewa and Szcz were even roommates for Poland.

Here's Szcz/Lewa out on the piss together with their girlfriends

    Safe to say they're mates.

    ROFL Alan Sugar:

Arsenal bid for Suarez might breach PL rules. How did they know about clause in his contract about above £40m. Liverpool should complain
Allow it bruv, even TSR knew about that clause.

Alan Sugar is such a moron. I don't understand how he managed to become anywhere near as rich as he did.

Perhaps, but I'll believe it when Ornstein finally grasps the concept of quoting, and hopefully implements it in his articles.

    Have a read at today's masterpiece: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23428419

Not a single quote from Suarez, but funnily enough we get: "Liverpool striker Luis Suarez wants to hold talks with Arsenal over a potential move to the London club."

    Maybe he's psychic?

Even if Suarez talks to Arsenal about a contract, it means nothing unless Arsenal stump up another 10/15 million

I suspect Wenger is hoping Suarez starts acting like a complete ****. He took Groningen to court over a rejected bid from Ajax so he's got form. If he really goes for it then I think Liverpool might just take 45m to be done with it all.

he's got a point though. the whole point of Arsenal making that bid was to allow them to hold talks with Suarez, but how would they have known about the clause if they hadn't already held talks with him?

I'm pretty sure it isn't allowed in the PL to hold talks with a player or their agent until the selling club agrees (normally by accepting a bid) or if there is clause like in Suarez's contract

Mate, even I knew about that 40m clause. All AFC had to do was pick up a newspaper to hear about that. 100% it was Suarez's agent who started advertising that clause and its no crime to hear things people are shouting from the rooftops.

    Nonsense from Sugar.

You have to be quite naive to think Arsenal would really just bid £40m because of paper talk.

Arsenal most definitely got official confirmation from someone on Liverpool or Suarezs end.

yea, pick up a newspaper to hear about it AFTER the bid had been made, congrats. There wasn't a hint of a clause until the bid was made.
