Note taking tip: use different colours in order to make important things stand out, such as key words, definitions and formulae. This way, you will find it easier to remember them.

    Tip:
Get into a system: I use a sort of skeleton system for presentations, using my own "shorthand" and a cornell type system for revision, which really makes the page wook good with proper writing! Once you get in the habit of dong this organisiation is second nature, and you tend to just make useful notes without thinking.

When taking notes don't write everything word for word. Abbreviate, but so that you understand. For example if something decreases I draw a down arrow, increases an up arrow. This save time, but does not change the meaning. If you really want neat notes that make sense, take rushed notes in this way and then write them out in neat. This has the added benefit of giving you a way to revise the notes.

Top tip: If you're making a lot of notes quickly, like in university lectures, make sure to choose stationery that is comfortable to write with quickly - or record the notes digitally so you can hand write them at a later date. In tutorials or classes, make sure to have a variety of colors available and group content together using different colors for each topic.
If you need a pencil, look out for cheap mechanical pencils so you don't keep having to sharpen them - and have some spare lead handy.
Oh, and make sure to buy decent quality paper, as some paper is quite thin and can be pretty useless unless you press very lightly with your pens and pencils!

    My note-taking advice:

If you're taking notes from a textbook, don't copy phrases word-for-word. Change them into your own words, move sentence structure around, write as if it is YOU talking. This way, you're processing the information in an extra way and having to think about the meaning of whatever you are writing!
