i'm confused, the textbook section on couples is like 8-10 pages long, i am not good with cutting things down ): i hate when questions are so open lol. I was ready to murder a question on cultural/material deprivation or internal factors - i was gutted when it asked for all three in one.

Can anyone help me with the structure of that essay?

    (NEW SPEC)

I need a REALLY good families mark so I don't get kicked out of the course so I just wanted to ask, how do you guys revise for families? Since there's so much context to cover and all.

Btw. I need at least close to full marks because I completely misread the first 20 marker and wrote about ethnicity. I don't think I read the 'social class' part which I was gutted about as I knew it by heart! But I did write some points on working class and middle class in terms of cultural deprivation and material deprivation so I'm hoping to pick up a few marks there.

The second 20 marker wasn't as bad, but I still wrote how positivists preferred group interviews and realised, although it was too late, that it was infact interpretivists who prefer this method so I've already lost a couple of marks there. I was going through the first 2 markers and the 6 as well as 10 marker with my sociology teacher and he assured me that what I had written would get at least all the marks so I'm hopeful will pick my grade up? I don't know, but I have one chance to save my butt.

The 2015 specimen paper's 20-marker is on functionalist views of the family so I'm not sure it'd be functions of the family. Does anyone have access to the 2016 specimen paper - what's the 20-marker on there?

I have a small feeling it may be on families and social policy because social policy didn't make much of an appearance on the education paper.

The hidden curriculum linked with the Marxist approach and so I said that it is a way for which students especially those from working class can be produced to become obedient workers eg. Coming to school on time= being in time for work,. My teacher had said that during the stress of the exam most people are most likely to outline and define their point with an eg linked with school. But you have to remember to always link it back to the question. Why is the hidden curriculum a function in sch to underachievement etc?. Me giving 'punctuality' and a way in which it contributes isn't an explanation but an example. You were more likely to get full marks if u actually explained how it links.
i wrote about the functionalist perspective and the Marxist perspective
i said that functionalists believe the education system to create social solidarity and teach specialist skills and also mentioned meritocracy and role allocation. i then linked it to educational achievement by saying that it would help to increase achievement as people are assured that their talents are valued and will therefore try to honour the opportunity by proving themselevs and acuiring god qualifications

then i spke about hw marxists view the ed system as functioning for capitalism?

    what d you think??

don't completely disregard the functionalist views of the family because there have been times when the same 20 marker has come up, just reworded, 3 years in a row. We can't say that just because it's come up in 2015, it won't come up again.I don't know why, but I'm really thinking either social policies or childhood.
Isn't the 2016 specimen paper on functionalist views or?

For the 10 marker would it be okay to discuss two MARXISTS functions? I said for point 1 that education legitimises inequality through the hidden curriculum and elaborated codes then for point 2 i said that education is used to instil ruling class values as althusser discusses. Could i still get 10/10 even though they're two marxists functions?
It asked for two functions over two opposing functions, so yes. Last time I checked they don't mark for AO2 on the 10 markers.

In other words: don't worry - you're fine!

I can't find it under assessment resources - there's one specimen paper for each AS exam, both of which are the 2015 ones. I think the 2016 specimen papers might be teacher-only resources, in which case I'll ask my Sociology teacher tomorrow.

No it's slightly different for the pure families it is 2,2,6,10 and 20 but then there is a research section and it is a 4 marker and a 16 marker

That is sounding really good.loooool when I first saw that paper my first thought was about labelling , streaming etc but I wasn't sure... So instead of me thinking for longer I just went into the 20 market. And whilst I was doing the intro for the functionalist perspective in the 20 marker it all came back to me and I understood by what they meant by 'functions'. Was soo happy I did that till last. If not, I would have just rushed and written anything just so that I would have time for the 20 marker.
