It'd probably have been easier if your good run didn't happen. You could have wrote the season off, accepted things and started planning for next season.

But you put a good run together and gave yourselves hope. And rightly so, as you were within 2 points and would have been level with us had we not scored in the 90th minute vs Newcastle. But as you said, all that clawing points back doesn't mean anything if you fall at the final few hurdles.

There is 7 games left of course. But it's a big ask. I don't think you could afford to drop more than maybe two points out of 21 in your remaining games to have a chance. Seems like a big big ask.

I agree - instead of just writing it off and not caring about the rest of the season, we got our hopes up.

So then it's just further to fall when we fail...

It's just tough to take - after the decline several years ago, it looks like it's happening again.
But then last season made us think we were finally back at the top....we messed that up nicely didn't we?

It's not mathematically over, but realistically it isn't happening.
Like I said, it's tough to take, especially when all the players give up.

You are absolutely right you're not good enough and you won't be any time soon. Liverpool cant sign good players even Salah and Shaqiri rejected you. Liverpool fans have to accept they are no longer a top club in England much less Europe.

You can't refute this argument. It is not desperate it is nothing more than the reality of Liverpool FC

Well done to you lot for a good performance yesterday. Sanchez has looked below par lately, but his goal yesterday was fantastic. I expected better from Liverpool, but those 3 goals in 8 minutes destroyed any chance they had.

Confident of second? I think if we could beat City next week and don't have some silly collapse, the fight for second place could be very interesting indeed. May even rest on the match at OT.

I was expecting more from Liverpool too tbh even though I thought we would beat them. I'm not too bothered about second or third, as long as we avoid the cl qualifier. Be interesting to see how United do in the next few games, going to old Trafford with a few more points between us would be ideal.

For our sakes, we need Burnley to get something against Tottenham, or they'll go ham against us next week. Not saying they won't regardless but it just helps.

Top 4 looks guaranteed now then, we won't drop 10 points from 7 games

bare minimum for how many seasons? We should be aiming for the title even second place is a step up but yeah no point if we aren't contending every season for title holder's

Arsenal were title contenders last season, their big games just came all at the same time

We haven't competed for the title since 2008 or the CL since 2009 that's why I want Wenger out despite his fantastic run in the PL it's too little too late in my opinion.

World Cup hangover and injuries killed us. Do you really think another manager could have done better given those circumstances?

We need to establish what the definition of title contenders is.

    For me you are if:

you are within a 3 result swing from the top of the league for at least half the season (ignoring games in hand or any of that stuff)

So we were title challengers last year, and we are just about this year. There is a stark difference between competing/contending and actually looking like winners though and that's a jump we need to make.

Injuries yes but i dont think you can use the excuse of a World Cup hangover since it applies to everyone and Chelsea and United sent more players to the World Cup iirc.

This is an excuse. We have failed for 11 years. I don't care who the manager is I WANT THE PL TITLE !!!

Just had a thought, if either Liverpool or Arsenal fail to reach the FA Cup final then either Aston Villa, Reading or Blackburn would take the final Europa League spot off Southampton
