****, thought this was the bar, it's full of drunkards...
Maybe when they sober up they will realise they should merge the party into the socialists

That would make us the largest party in the house however, surely you don't want that?

It wouldn't make you big enough to form a government though

I never said anything about forming a Government, just that we'd be the largest party, and would therefore, in theory, have a stronger mandate to put forward policies and promises made in both the manifestos than the coalition's mandate.

But the numbers would be the same.

If Labour merged with the socialiss we would gain is it four seats from the socialists? Making us the largest party, that was literally the only comment I was making, although meant as a light hearted jest I did expand a little bit on it with some theory when replying to you

I don't think the seats would carry over, although there is no precedent as far as I know

Might be something to ask the new speaker when elected as I am curious now as to how it would work

This whole light hearted joke was demolished in the least light hearted way

I feel so bad that I was involved.

It's a funny thing and if we want any precedent we need to look for RL precedent, which I think also doesn't exist

Then can we not apply the same precedent here? If the merged forming a new party, it would have no seats, or if the socialists merged into Labour then the seats wouldn't carry over.

They're two totally different things. A split maintains the party the seats belong to, a merger doesn't.
