It got banned, all stadiums had to be all seater but I saw somewhere Villa are trailing safe standing. Its time we move on from Hillsborough, times have changed.

Also I wonder how much the emirates can be expanded ie how many more seats would we be able to fit in ? If anyone knows or can give a rough estimate
I don't think it can be, I read somewhere that the best they'd do is make the seats smaller or make a new roof due to safety reasons.

Not saying it's our biggest priority, but we really do. We've been playing the same team practically every match for the past two seasons and now with our fringe players in Arshavin and Gervinho gone, its an even more desperate situation. Cazorla needs to stay in the middle which only leaves the Ox as backup to both Walcott and Podolski (who lets not forget can't even last a whole match for whatever reason), and I'm not even sure Wenger wants to be playing Ox on the wings nowadays. How you think that's sufficient for the forthcoming season is difficult to understand.
I think Wenger sees this as an opportunity to start Miyaichi/Gnabry. Both would be more effective than Gervinho tbf, still think we should sign someone though.

There are two ways for us to strengthen our team,"
“The first is internal and [remember] we finished with 73 points last year after a very strong run. But I feel, because we are a very young core of players, there is room for improvement.

“So the second part is to of course strengthen our squad from outside.

“We have signed Sanogo. He has not made the headlines. Why? Because he is not £50m to £100million but I am quite confident he will make them soon on the pitch, and that for me is the most important.

“There is one month to go. We are at the beginning of August, the transfer window finishes at the start of September. We are working very hard to strengthen our squad.

“I don't want to speak about Suarez because that is between Liverpool and Arsenal. We will completely respect what Liverpool wants to do. We want to do that if it is feasible in an amicable way.

I am a great believer you have to keep as much confidentiality as possible. That is quite difficult in the modern world.

“But we work very hard, not only on that case, on other different cases.

“If you look at many teams around us, nothing has happened until now. At the moment the market hasn't moved a lot. Apart from Man City, nobody has done anything.”

Definitely agree. I think he's a top manager - gets the best out of every team (except only for Inter, really).

When he was at Liverpool his transfers were either amazing or downright diabolical. So I won't be so decisive before actually seeing them in action

There can be no doubt however that Rafa is a great cup manager, I wouldn't want to face one of his teams over two legs.

Do you guys think Giroud will improve next season and by how much? Or anyone else for that matter? I doubt it will be enough for arsenal to be premier league title contenders, maybe F.A or Capitol One Cup if the draw if kind to us. I don't think arsenal will make any major signings in this window so my hope lies in our current players improving.

I remember someone saying here that Giroud would turn out to be a white Didier Drogba. I also remember saying exacty that to a group of my friends and being laughed out the house. The parallels are uncanny in ways. I do think he'll improve vastly and if pre season is anything to go by, then this upcoming campaign will definitely show it.

Ive heard that the seats are 25% bigger than average, which seems about right so assuming that we only change non-club level seats that would imply 0.25*50000=12500 new seats. We can also add some rows at the back of the upper tier and apparently a few pitch side too.

So the Emirates can probably be expanded up to 75000-80000. Main problem is the transport links with Islington council forbidding further expansion until the tube stations are upgraded(and paid for by Arsenal)

    Starting XI to play Napoli:
Fabianski, Jenkinson, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Gnabry, Podolski, Giroud

Time to see if Giroud can keep up this great pre season run against opposition of fairly decent quality.

Gonna be nice to see how Jenkinson deals with a tricky little wide man like Insigne, probably get ripped apart but hopefully he'll do ok.

    Depends who starts ofcourse.

Also am looking forward to Podolski. I'm still unsure of him as a winger and can't understand how we play a whole season with him in that position.

He seems to link up really well with Giroud in that position though and with Gibbs on the overlap. He was FAR from convincing up front when he was given the chance a few times last season. It seems he's suited to a counterattacking style of play when up front, as they played at Koln. He doesn't seem as effective up front with our style of possession football.
