Hey, yeah i did my UKCAT on results day (would not recommend) and got 616.6 which is 1850. Sheffield says their cutoff this year is 1850/2700 so since I literally just scrape it figured not worth it as wouldn't get an interview
also I swear we weren't on this thread originally and it was one I started? Where'd it go?

My school doesn't offer EPQ, but ai may go and carry on with 4 A levels - not set in stone but its just a thought. What about you? I'm doing the UKCAT on the 5th.

May I ask what your stats are?
Ahhh I see which subjects did you do? My college offers the EPQ so I'll be taking that up next year but I'm also going to be taking up AS Further Maths and I will probably drop one or the other during the year. How's preparing for that going?

    Yeah sure, so
    GCSEs: 10 A*s, 2 As, 1 C (lol)

    Work experience/volunteering:
    1 week shadowing a GP,
    2 days shadowing microbiology department
    3 days shadowing cardiorespiratory department
1 year helping out at a deaf specialist primary school
I'm also going to start volunteering in a hospice but that isn't until late September

    Extra-curriculars:
    Blogging
Running - ran 10k Manchester Run thing for charity
    NCS
I've also done things like mentor, prefect, librarian but most likely won't mention it as it's all in side scholl/college and I feel like I have other better examples to talk about.

    How about yours?

Preparation is going ok. My current subjects are Biology (B), Chemistry (A), History (A) and Maths (B). May drop Maths if I decide not to go with 4 A levels.

I can tell you my stats are no where near as yours - you have amazing statistics, well done!

GCSEs: 6A*s 4As (wish my school had more GCSEs available tbh)

    Work Experience/Volunteering:
    1 week Opticians
    1 week GP
1 week Neurology (around many departments e.g theatre and radiology)
2 days in the Liver and Anti-Viral Department
1 year as a Maths Tutor
1 year as a Peer Mentor
I have an on - going placement at a care home - I have been there for about 2 months now

    Extra-curriculars:
Blogging - well aiming to start with a bunch of friends
    Origami - just for fun
    Yoga/Meditation
Prefect as you said as well - don't think I will talk about it either
Charity Week - part of the Sixth Form committee that raised £3000
I have gone to many seminars/conferences as well and like you said, I have a lot of other little side things I have done.

What are your subjects again and what grades did you get in them?

Well done on your amazing stats so far!

Should I be worried by the fact that 3 out of my 4 choices seem to have some of the lowest % appointed to ST inside the UK?
They do, however, have some of the highest % appointed to ST outside the UK, though. Is this an important thing to consider?

In the reports I'm looking at (National F2 Career Destination Survey 2012 and F2 Career Destination Report 2014) it also shows (on page 6 and 11 in that order) a high % other, for these three universities. What does that mean?

I'm thinking I'll want to go into surgery, so I'm trying to take that into account a bit with where I apply...

Which resources are you using? I'm using medify and the ISC 1000 Qs book.

Thank you! Your stats are definitely ones to be proud of as well, and the only reason we could do more GCSEs was because we sat half in year 10 and the rest in year 11.

Wow, you've done loads of work experience! How did you manage to get so much done? Cuz I hear it's hard to get WE without contacts.

I did exactly the same subjects as you and got the same grades lol - the only exception being I got an A in bio and a B in chem, I did Modern World history, which part did you do?

Thank you! You've done so well, especially with regards to your personal statement, you'll defo have lots to talk about.

Ahhh I see, are you planning to drop one of the subjects that you did for AS?

As for GCSEs, my school are pretty basic with subjects, we can only do the most common, standard ones.

I'm using the same resources as you. How are you finding each section?

I definitely did not have any contacts in regards to work experience, it was just a lot of emails to be honest.

I did OCR for History, with Russia and From Pitt to Peel being my units for AS.

Well done on your grades, and same to you, you will definitely have a lot to talk about in the personal statement!!

Yup, most definitely dropping History (I've been saying it for the whole year lol but even though it was my best subject I can't put myself through that torture again)

AR makes NO sense whatsoever, I've been practicing and using the mnemonics but I still can't get my head round it. The other sections are fairly easy but VR can be quite tricky. You?

Wow, did you start early or something? Because all my friends struggle to get even a few days shadowing.

Ahhh, no, I did AQA and I did The Cold War and the British Empire.

Thank you! Have you got a first draft of your personal statement?

Haha, I was saying the same thing about history, but I rather go for the A*A*A prediction with history than the A*AA prediction with maths, and like I said, I may do maths outside privately, since our Maths department is quite bad. I rather do it myself, considering half of the year that did Maths got Ds,Es and Us.

I actually did not start early until Year 12. Even then, I did not start properly until December.

With AR, I feel that I am getting better but its still quite alien for me to get my head around it. I agree with you on VR, but overall its not that bad. What about QR? I hope its easier, I'm just struggling with timing on it.

And yup, first draft is ready but I'm going to carry on working on it after the UKCAT.

Thanks! I wasn't really sure how it compared to most people - school said it was 'good' but I didn't know if that meant average or what 😂 But thank you, I did put in a fair amount of work

Fair enough but I thought you said if you ask your teachers they'll happily change it for you? And wow, that bad? You must've worked really hard for your B then.

Yeah I get you with AR. I think QR is fairly easy except for when I need to know a formula since I don't know any of them. And really? I think QR is the easiest for timing since its easier to retrieve data as opposed to say VR.

Yup, if I asked they would definitely change it, however I really like the A2 spec for my history course, so I actually want to do it. I only really disliked the British module of the specification, which is over and done with, and I can cope with revising it and since I still like maths, I'm considering to do it outside. As you know, my school's maths department, especially for A2 isn't that great

Personally I'm faster for VR. Maybe since I'm a fast reader?!
