six fuses, of which two are defective, and four are good, are to be tested one after another in a random order until both defective fuses are identified. find the probability that the number of fuses tested is:

a) three
b) four or fewer

wow that it a hard question!

i think you'd have to think about all the possible combinations
so for example number 1 you could get ( in this case d=defective and g= good)

dgd

you cannot get ggg as they are tested until both defective ones are identified.
so I think you would do


4/6 x 2/5 x 1/5 +
2/6 x 4/5 x 1/4
