I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole album yet :/ Frusciante is such a legend though, incredible musician. Listening to the single I know what you mean about there being a frusciante-shaped hole, there was just something missing. It's always strange when RHCP do something new, because since Blood Sugar Sex Magick, no two albums have been the same in style I think, which is good but also can lead to disappointment.
I've listened to I'm With You a dozen or so times since the livestream went up on iTunes (and since buying the album yesterday). Can definitely see the natural progression from Stadium Arcadium in songs like 'Dance, Dance, Dance' (which also has a quick throwback to the 80s heavy funk stuff IIRC), though they're also treading new ground with stuff like 'Police Station' - you can tell they're out of their comfort zone, but in a good way - which is one of my favourites so far.

Raindance Maggie wasn't a great choice for the single IMO, much better material to be found elsewhere on the album that still sounds quite Frusciante-like. I think Josh has done a pretty good job of filling his shoes without replicating his style entirely; you can definitely hear John's lasting influence but still the Chilis move forward. Can't wait to see them in September and can't stop () listening to the new record
