Sorry to hear that. What's your profile, out of interest? Did you feel you particularly didn't perform on any aspects of the interview? Or was it pre-int?

Post int, a lot improvement could be done actually, especially why securities, current affair and why I see myself fitting in the division as a non-finance related degree (computer science). I wonder how deep understanding could be expressed in those answers, though I'm pretty sure that I just scratched the surface in my int.

Has anyone else been added by Julie Nicolas on LinkedIn and given the sales pitch about the British Finance & Investment Students Conference? I'm debating whether it is worth the money as I already have an internship for the summer. What's everyone's opinion? (Please PM so the thread isn't spammed with non-SW stuff)

Hey I saw this post of yours when looking about whether the conference is worth it... Thought Id ask you if you did manage to find out... ?

    Is it really that helpful?

    Cheers

Invited to final round Barclays interview - I seem to remember people saying it is pretty similar to the first telephone interview, is this correct? Thanks!

I decided against it and I'm not going, mostly because I don't want to go into trading. Here was her initial sales pitch on LinkedIn:

"Quite a few senior finance professionals will be attending the conference and will provide students with practical and honest advice on how to get to the top. Live interviews with students and industry panels will be conducted on stage and finance professionals. The best candidates will be offered an internship onsite at the event. We’re also working closely together with famous hedge fund manager Lex van Dam who will participate in these industry panels. It’s a conference with a mixture of keynote presentations and industry panels with live interviews. At the end of the day there will be a networking drinks reception with senior finance specialists."

    And when I inquired further:

"We only have 41 places left which include the 2 free trading courses. Students are registering every day and societies at universities have also reserved tickets for their members and students and are in the process of fully confirming their places.

The ticket price includes 2 free trading courses which is worth £1,000 (5-Step-Trading(R) Stocks I and 5-Step-Trading(R) Stocks II); students also have the chance to be selected to receive the £300 package from well-known headhunter Thomas de Brun (three hours of online coaching from Thomas de Brun and access to anyone on Thomas's LinkedIn connections and personal introductions (where appropriate), to his network of over 1000 people globally); meet and greet with senior finance professionals; opportunities to find a mentor onsite (help you with how to build a network with connections who truly can help you, introduce you to people who matter to you specifically for your career, answer all the questions you have and you'll be able to be in touch with them on a regular basis (by email and/or meetings) during the year); food and drinks; and some students will walk away with an internship or a full-time position."

(Me speaking) I doubt there any places left that include the free trading courses so it is probably even worse of a proposition now, but that is just me speculating. I know some people on this forum are going to the conference, so you might get a different viewpoint in a minute to help you balance the pros/cons. Hope that helps!!
