Because

Log_a x = b
a^b = x

I know, most of my friends taking maths have said the same thing! Its veeryyy hard ive been told. Chemistry seems to be the hardest for me, and that's the problem. Everyone seems to be getting As :/ yeahh maybe we could. What do you take?

I do chemistry , along with bio, maths and phys. I'm on the OCR Salters board or something like that. I'll try by best to answer any questions you have

Meh, only one other person at my school takes the same subjects as me. To be honest I kinda wish I hadn't taken maths now

Same haha, It's not so much the content it's just that I drop so many marks while doing exam questions
nah I just hate the topic (why does it take up so much of the syllabus ) but the good thing is that the questions are the same every year so its just practise

Really? Almost everyone I know at my school has gone with those 4 subjects! Its very popular as far as I know...yeahh haha and a lot of them have said exactly the same thing! I guess it all takes practise, but yess ive heard its very hard!

Oooooh, unlucky. I'm with them too for chemistry, currently doing their A2 coursework...it's SO much work, about 18+ hours of labwork and then a 60+ page report...and the grade boundaries for it are so high too.

5^2 = Root(X^2 + 49) (from the rule which Fishy stated)
5^2^2 = X^2 + 49 (Squaring out to remove root)
625 = X^2 + 49
576 = X^2 (Minus 49 to get X^2 only on one side)
+/- Root(576) = X (Square rooting to get X)
= +/- 24

Hope that helps Once youve understood the formula this sort of equation should be very simple.
