Beleive me, firs ttime you wear glasses it feels and looks weird to you. But over time you just get used it and they start to look good. Oh I had some horrible first glasses, very basic cheap ones..then moved on to my current roxy pink metal ones which suit me so well.

If your getting them from an opticians get one of the assistants to help you pick a pair, they can suggest good frames that will suit your face.

Aye to be fair the girls i work with all say my taste in glasses is shocking.
Hows Mr Neil doing? I miss that man
Mr Neil, as in head of the clinic? Haven't seen him much yet, the clinic work all kicks off next semester - really looking forward to it.

    How's pre-reg going?

    (Original post by R. Murray)
Well we stuck some cyls in the back of the trial set, but inevitably there's the irritating "patient" who says all the lines are the same. The same "patient" also contradicts themselves and lead round in circles with subjective. I hope to god I don't get him in the assessment!

Most of the charts in the clinic don't have the fan and block so I don't think we'll ever have to use it really!

Yep in my second year - got pathology exam tomorrow Gotta love GCU and their "forward thinking" in putting exams before Christmas - except for those who weren't able to get to the uni for the first exam so now have an exam after Christmas as well! Worst of both worlds!

I've quite liked this year so far - more practical techniques, had a module on "Ophthalmic Materials" which was very dull and most of the class felt incredibly underprepared for our practical assessments - especially hand neutralisation and frame measure.

How are you enjoying your year so far?
You'd hate to refract me then - chase people all around in the left eye (the axis is exactly 90, but people never seem happy with that) and the right eye has bad enough VA that cross-cyl is out ... but it's not a particularly high cyl, so fan and block's horrible too. Here, they seem to select 'patients' that are going to be relatively nice (for example, they probably wouldn't make someone refract my right eye for a ten minute assessment) because you can only develop the skills to deal with difficult patients if you're allowed to continue and for that you need to pass the easy ones - hopefully its the same at Caley.

Oh, lucky - you feel ready for it? What was the first exam on?

Oh, sounds like 'theoretical and practical ophthalmic lenses' - hand neutralisation is a pain, frame measurement's all right though. Done any focimetry yet? When you say 'had', was that a one semester module? We had a whole year with lenses.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying it so far - more practical skills, only with more emphasis on why we do them and not just how we do them, so I'm happier with that. We're also doing vision science, which is really interesting, and pharmacology and pathology which is ... odd. It's not a practical module (except for the eye drops) and seems a bit distant from optometry at times, and yet I'm really enjoying that. And we don't have assessments until after Christmas. :p:

Ohh yeahh I forget that you don't really meet neil until mid second year, its just once you've spent a year with him its hard to believe times without him.
Pre-reg is tough but enjoyable. Really wish i'd put my head down at uni tho! would have been so much easier lol

I love my glasses. I've had them since I was 5. I wore awful disgusting granny ones then because I didn't know better. If you get nice frames, they'll probably look quite nice. I think I look better with glasses than I do without and I get lots of compliments on my glasses. They're a bit boring now because I've had them for about 2 years. I got a letter in the post today saying I need a new eye appointment. My eye sight is getting worse the older I get! I'm worried I'll be near blind by the time I'm 50. I really want contacts but my eyes water so much I don't think I'd be able to deal with them. I love black, thick framed 'geek' glasses but I can't pull them off.
So yeah, glasses ftw! Get a nice frame that suits your face and you're good to go!

Just to put it out their i think guys look great in glasses and some girls pull it off amazingly i just think they aren't for me. Sadly i'm not eligible for contact lenses
In that case the question would be: what you prefer, see better or look better?

If you spend enough time you'd find the right frames.

I hate wearing glasses because some psychological trauma from when I started wearing them.
Now I need progressives for studying (it's annoying to change glasses at least 4 times in 90 minutes).

Rimless glasses are not noticable unless your prescription is high enough to make your eyes change their shape.
Plastic glasses are hard to suit without really tryng them on. Thin metal is easier but they are kind of out of fashion now...

If you get the right glasses, they can improve the way you look Most people look good with or without glasses...The type of glasses that you should get depend on your face shape.. there's lots of info about this here:

Fan and block's test is a mess for me, every time the blurry lines are changing, especially after I blink. Does that mean I have a high astigmatism?

Here (In Bar Ilan, Israel) they select pacients for the second test, first timers go to the 4th year (last year) students. I think it is the right way to teach.

Just like some guys look better with short hair and some don't, the same goes for people wearing glasses. I personally think girls can pull off a certain sexy look better wearing glasses then guys can, but that might be just because Iam a man who isn't a practicing homosexual or a woman.

But not all girls are able too and it also depends on the style of the glasses,.Not many people wear thick rimmed nhs glasses anymore, with a bit of plaster holding the frames together.I just wear a pair of glasses for driving and they cost me around 300 pounds, just the frame. But they do look good on me and match the contors of my face well. If I needed glasses day to day,I'd probably get laser treatment.

But anyway, all is not lost, just the other day my friend and me were watching porn and this porn star had a pair of glasses on them on, we called them man juice deflectors. I'd have still done her, so theres hope for you yet.

ok well i've recently been prescribed some new glasses. I like to think i'm at least average in the looks department but i think i'll look really ugly in glasses. Some people pull it off so well. guys and girls do you think glasses can make someone look worse?

      PLEASE KEEP ANON
If you get glasses that are the right shape for your face, you can pull it off amazingly.

Don't worry. The only person who's going to be really bothered by how you look in glasses is you, and you'll get used to them eventually and learn to like them.

I think it depends on the person and the style of glasses.
Some people actually look much hotter in glasses than without them. Some people look great both ways and others looks better without glasses. Hard to say without a picture.

If you really cannot get used to them, why not try contacts?

I've been wearing glasses since i was 9. Used to wear contacts a lot in high school cos i also had braces and there is only so much adversity a girl can put up with when trying to get a boyfriend. But i wear my glasses most of the time now and I don't care if people think they make me look ugly because I canread signs, and newspapers and books and watch the telly and i don't have to squint and get wrinkles.

My boyfriend is meant to wear them but hates it but i think he looks cute in them.
