I like a bit of everything as far as these genres go depending solely on what mood I'm in but Black Metal remains a guilty pleasure; it's such crap but you've gotta love it

Not doom per se, but does anyone listen to drone metal at all? I'm liking Sunn O))), but have no idea where to go from here in terms of bands, any suggestions?

:adore: Nice taste! I love Drudkh, I think my all time favourite band...I think even the new one is a masterpiece despite the stick it's got, it just has a more post-rock shoegaze influence a-la Alcest.
I do like Handful of Stars a lot but I didn't expect it to be ANYTHING like it was. It seems extremely shoegazey which isn't a bad thing, as I consider Alcest to be more shoegaze than Black Metal and I love Slowdive.

I tend to switch subgenres very very quickly, like listen to one for about 3 days, like symphonic metal, then electronic, then 70's rock, then death metal with no real explanation, but recently I had a week where I ONLY listened to Drudkh and Wolves in the throne room, after finally getting songs of grief and solitude. One of the best albums for chilling out ever.

I like Monoliths and Dimensions, but I never really bothered with anything else by them except the grimmrobe demos which are really good.

Try Absolutego and Feedbacker by Boris, and apparently Flood is really good too, but I haven't listened to it, but my friend doesn't stop raving about it. Their live album rock dream with Merzbow is really good too, but there is quite a lot of stoner rock on that one as well as drone. but I prefer them to Sunn o))) all day long.

***** wut, Children of Boredom are hardly black metal :| neither are Cradle of ******s.
The constant ripping on Cradle by the trve kvlt **** got annoying a long time ago. Their last 2 albums have been fantastic concept albums with a really interesting and well written concept, and the music was brilliant too. But no, as soon as a band goes to Road Runner records it doesn't matter what they sound like, or what they do after one bad album they are just rejected for ever and not given another chance.

I may be quite a big fan, and I seem to be in the minority who actually likes Dani's voice. I can see why people don't though in all honesty.

Cathedral were playing in Islington at the O2 academy about a month ago.

Used to be very much into it, now much more rammstein, pendulum, metallica, epica, sonata arctica etc.
That Cathedral gig was rather ****ing fantastic

Isn't it a bit hypocritical to say this but in your profile you mention how you don't like 'poser metal', the constant declaration of not liking poser metal is as just as annoying.

Jennifer wrestled her friend playfully to the ground
infront of the snowcone stand and began licking at the
girls eyeballs, as if they were sugar cubes. Their
bodies convulsed and flailed with an almost seizure
like intensity. At times their pale limbs seeming to
shift back and forth from one torso to the other. A
crowd gathered almost immediately to watch these two
girls tie and untie their bodies like a pair of
pit-vipers. They were confused, or concerned, or
shocked, or aroused, or all of the above. But no-one
dared interfere with the performance. Jennifer's long
ashen hair hung down concealing the girls face like a
curtain around a hospital bed. No one had any idea
that the girls eyes were revolving under her ruby
tongue. "This is disgusting, it's pornography"
exclaimed a pasty slut white woman in a fur coat,
vanilla ice-cream smeared across her double chin like
a money shot. Counting a balding professor type in his
mid-forties, his left hand stuffed crassly down the
front of his pants "No, no, no. This is beautiful,
    this is art."

    For sure.

Such wonderful memories of sitting at the back of year 8 maths whilst the animals I had to share a school with struggled with the most basic of problems.

Do you think it's too soon for someone to write a black metal song about the Crossbow Cannibal?
Y'know, like rammstein for armin meiwes did, only black metal instead of industrial.

I was toying with the idea the other night and I think it might be too soon to do it *now*.
But once I write it and get around to recording it, we'll be several weeks/months down the line...

Earth, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, and the Sunn/Boris collab albums are great and similar in heavy-ness. I really like the more ambient side of drone too though, like Nadja and Grouper. I'd also recommend some Power Electronics/Dark Ambient like Propergol and (some) Navicon Torture Technologies which although entirely electronic, remains crushingly heavy.

As for Flood, Part IV may well be the best thing ever. The rest isn't bad though.

    Askival anyone?
I like the songs I've heard, although I was reading on blackmetal.co.uk earlier and it would seem that one of the members (or "the" member, I'm not sure) is close to a few NSBM bands. It would also seem that there's quite a few NSBM fans on that website so I decided not to join.

I enjoy Askival! One of the reasons UKBM is such a respectable scene now along with Winterfylleth, Wodensthrone and Fen. They don't seem to be explicitely NS themselves, and being from the UK I dunno what other NS bands they'd be close to? That forum is pretty **** anyway so worth avoiding NS or not, I used to go to ultimatemetal.com for reccommendations.

Anyone got some good **** in their christmas hauls? New Agalloch and DsO here, along with new October Tide then a few oldies that were missing from my collection.
