There's only a finite amount of land in the UK, we need some of that for farming, you know - to grow food.

Also, people want to preserve the countryside, for good reasons; wildlife, recreational uses and general pleasure (of not being surrounded by traffic) and for environmental benefits it brings.
Relatively little in this country is used for farming currently.

In fact, importing more food from abroad rather than farming here would be cheaper.

Housing estates in Glasgow have seen massive regeneration projects which have been very succesful so your photographs are completely irrelevent.

What reducing immigration ? Or are you equating reducing immigration with murder, genocide, enslavment and war you ****ing idiot

What the hell does debating immigration levels have to do with Adolf Hitler or Nazi Germany ? Oh I forgot you probably read the Guardian.
The title is 'Britain is overcrowded'.

Reducing immigration would not fix this, as the title suggests that it is too late and there are already too many people here.

To fix this, people would have to be removed in order to reduce the people:land ratio.

So yes, some guy in Germany did have ideas that relate to the OP.

If you want to debate capping immigration, then phrase the OP appropriately.

What, in a country where only 0.4% of the population is made up of immigrants? You sure?

So, is Glasgow all leafy wealthy suburbs, now? Lovely.

My point was that Scotland has its ****holes too.

Reducing immigraiton would be done through capping incoming immigration. Not gassing migrants you moron. You are simply desperate to associate the immigration debate with nazism you Guardian reading tard

Glasgow has always been very green and as I said housing estates have seen massive regeneration. You don't live in Glasgow though so you would not know would you.

If only it were so simple. But economically such an act as you say you want would be suicide.

Firstly, unless your policy was carried out alongside a culling of old people, it will just make the pension problems worse. We have an ageing population with people needing pensions for longer. One way to help the problem is to ensure we have a growing number of workers. Part of the pension problem was caused by a dropping birth rate which barely replaces the people that die, thus a higher and higher proportion of the population becomes older when the age expectations increase. Migration has, in part, been responsible in recent years for off-setting this problem increasing our population a little.

Secondly, EU immigration is a massive portion of all immgration in to the UK. Yet is arguably some of the least valuable. I don't have figures, but I would expect a higher percentage of immigrants from outside of the EU are highly skilled scientists, doctors, academics (perhaps you might want to include sports people in this list too). Thus by stopping non-EU immigration so suddenly you don't actually reduce immigration that much yet stop what I'm expecting would be a massively disproportionate number of the most valuable highly skilled immigrants which we need to ensure the country performs as well as it can in very important sectors.

Yes, I do understand the benefits of growing food, thank you. Not sure we need 90% of the land in Britain for that, though.
Where did you get the 90% figure from?

    BUGGER OFF

You are not turning my country into some ghetto like you have done to your own country. I have been to sloguh, inner London and Birmingham and I don;t want Scotland going down the pan like those areas.
 Should I think that your name is written in the flowers in Scotland? I like that banal materialism. You might be born there but no one gave you possesion there. Scotland is my country too. Australia too. I'm quite powerful, you know, homie.

I read somewhere that only around 10% of the UK has been built on, don't have a source for that at the minute I'm afraid. I just copy pasted the 0.4% statistic off Wikipedia but it was from some official estimate I think.

The government pays out huge subsidies to British farmers so that their products can remain more competitive than foreign imports.

Scotland belongs to the ethnic Scots. If you are not an ethnic Scot then this is not your homeland.

    You are the moron.

Yes, immigration would reduced by capping further immigration. That is a truism.

But if Britian is already overcrowded as suggested in the thread title "Britain is overcrowded... something needs to be done about immigration...", then reducing incoming immigration would not reduce the migrants already here, and therefore would not solve the overcrowding.

Also, see the poll Does something need to be done about Immigration and Overcrowding?

The OP has grouped capping immigration and solving (apparently already existing) overcrowding.

How does stopping a problem from getting worse fix the problem?

The only way to reduce the overcrowding would be to reduce the number of people per unit volume.

Obviously you have not read the OP thoroughly, and have jumped in to argue against an often misused analogy. If you had spent a few seconds more to read the post, you would realise that the OP is discussing both immigration and overcrowding, and not just immigration.
