I don't drink, but I do still have fun as there are many drunk girls

but imho if you are sober, then clubbing etc is a no no....only house parties really should be attended when sober

this phrase is always thrown around on forums and internert, yet in real life, the sober ones (rare) in clubs/parties usually look bored as fuuuck, they think all the drunk people are annoying and act like party poopers and usually leave early while everyone is partying till late....

just what i've noticed, have you ?
As a person that used to go to parties as a non-drinker, I always laugh when I see this phrase. It's boring as ****: drunk people are funny ... but only to other drunk people, and you just end up babysitting them. I used to stay until the point they were going home, call taxis for them, then leave. Next day, no one would even remember I was there.

I say used to because I just don't bother now.

I'm one of those people, I just get really hyped just because everyone else at the party is hyped as well, so it's fine for me

the student room is renowned for being the world's most densely populated with virgins and losers web space, so it's inevitable you have a few bitter barbara's who pretend they enjoy not drinking. They're the type who just meander around tsr making sarcastic comments for cheap rep and overusing the '' smiley; - a sorry existence.
    hahahahahahahah! So true!

I agree. I've had the misfortune of being the token sober at a party before and it's no fun sitting watching all the drunk people have fun and talking crap, thinking 'that could be me.'

It's as fun as you make it. Sober or Drunk. FACT.

You need to know how to have a good time and have fun. If you can't enjoy yourself without alchool then your the one thats pretty much the loser. People who go out, don't take alchool and sit there and wait for the magic to happen - It never will unless you make it happen and at the end fo th day thats the end of the story. It's up to you.

I'm not much of a drinker. I do drink but I've had my fiar share of nights out without drinking, it really doesn't bother me, some of my best nights out are without drinking and best of all I can remember it. I like to be able to know and remember when i'm having a good time.

Not gonna lie, being tee-total does make it a little difficult to fully enjoy yourself. Everyone else is uninhibited, you feel like an idiot. Plus EVERYONE asks you why you're not drinking and makes you feel like a weirdo. You don't feel like you can sing or dance or anything. The key to relieving this awkwardness is KARAOKE!

Actually, though, when you think about it, the fact that everyone else is sloshed should make it easier for you to let loose, because no one else will be bothered about how stupid you act, you've no need to feel embarrassed in front of people who are being embarrassing themselves! Unless you have those annoying friends who can be lively and drunk yet still coherent and capable of remembering how stupid you acted, and the fact that you weren't drinking so had no excuse!

I suppose the thing with parties is that generally there'll be a few people there you are good friends with but, most of the people there you'll either not know that well, not know at all, or won't be too fond of them. So alcohol almost acts as a social lubricant for people who in any other situation you wouldn't socialise with/be able to have fun with.

However it's very easy to have fun without alcohol if you are with genuine close friends. Mostly because you'll have decent stuff to talk about etc.

And I suppose the main issue with parties is that a lot of the time they do revolve around alcohol and getting wasted (for many people). In short I suppose it's just a social situation that has resulted in needing alcohol to function. Which I suppose is a bit sad in some ways.

I can imagine being sober at a party with your good friends wouldn't be too bad (I say imagine because I've never done it) but being sober while clubbing is absolutely ****. The super awesome dance skills that I think I have when I'm drunk turn out to be just moving vaguely in time to the music and pointing to the ceiling. I normally just end up hanging around the bar like a loner or going home early.

Last year (final year) one of my housemates had opted to remain tea-total after fairly serious alcohol poisoning at somthing like 16 and i went to a couple of events with him without drinking and it was cracking.

I would normally drink well past the point of being tipsy, without getting totally smashed, but not drinking worked fine too.

Calvin harris, in the students union, surrounded by drunk freashers and randomers, had a really great time. Just got on a high and said there. No alcohol, no nothing, really great night and no after effects.

    Depends on the company.
If I went somewhere on my own, I'd probably loosen up faster (and thus have more fun) if I had a few drinks but if I go somewhere with my friends I don't need alcohol to have fun

Some people only have fun if they're drunk as do some people only have fun when they're sober. Personally, I enjoy getting drunk and if I'm at a party where most people are getting drunk then I prefer being drunk so we're all on the same wave length xD
But if there's no alcohol or people are being sensible with it then I can have just as much fun being sober.

So you're in an excellent position to compare...
I'm not comparing, I'm just stating.

Yes, being sober at parties when everyone else is drunk is depressing. That's why I always get there early with at least a can of lager or two down my neck. :awesome:

Whereas using the Internet to parade your superiority and poor pity upon all of those poor, lonely souls just screams confidence and fulfillment, right?

It depends on the quality of the party. Good parties are fun sober. Most parties aren't good parties.
