I thought the race yesterday showed that it's actually a bit boring without the cruelty - in other words, the thrill of seeing horses fall over and jockeys being at severe risk of very bad injury was all part of the 'action' and what punters wanted. Taming the National will gradually make it too dull for the blood lust and, like the Roman Colosseum, it will go the way of history.
Interesting debate on TV this morning about ending hunt racing altogether and only permitting flat racing, as in Australia - much less cruel.
horse racing is a perfectly legitemate sport
look at cheltenham races, how sprinter sacre beat every other horse in the dust,
...or just paranoid?
