I'm sensing a little hostility towards Muslims here. Maybe I'm wrong but there seem to be more towards this post than just the gay thing. I'm not Muslim btw!
It's not hostility, it's called being realistic.

I know quite a few non religious gay white people who had horrible experiences when they came out to their families. So how do you explain that?

I explain it as I suspect you're completely made it up. Considering I'm probably a little older and likely considerably more knowledgeable about gay stuff, I trust my gut instinct that you're lying through your teeth about them being horrible experiences. And even if you're not, it's a pretty worthless anecdote standing next to substantiated academic work on the subject.

Also, how charmingly naive you are when it comes to religion. As if Muslim countries don't execute gay people (and exclusively... only Muslim countries do this). And that the harshness of punishment for homosexuality is proportional to how Muslim a country is.

And that in a poll a couple of years ago of a few thousand Muslims in Britain about whether they thought homosexuality should be tolerated, the rate of positive answers was 0%. Not one.

I suppose straight people who are never actually going to put up with Muslim homophobia can afford to be naive like you are.

Sorry to hear that. It's a well known fact though that a lot of muslims are uncomfortable with LGBT. However, there are Muslim LGBT groups in the UK, so you don't have to choose between your faith and being yourself. There is a happy medium. Maybe once things have calmed down you can explain that to your family??

it`s your life .you should decide what to do no one else so go ahead and ask your Mother to forgive you ....she will not understand you but she know the best for you even if you are old you still a boy in her eyes

I lost my own mother to breast cancer on April 19, 2003. Though the pain of losing her is still with me and her memory lives on in my siblings and me, I sometimes worry that I might forget what a blessing she was for me.
For me, Islam is the best reminder of my mother's presence. With daily encouragement from the Quran and the living example of the Prophet Muhammad, I know I will always keep her memory close to my heart.

( A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, Muslim).)

    don`t loose her ..

To say there is nothing wrong with being gay nullifies your Islam.

That is worse than being gay (which is a major sin) and still practising Islam while acknowledging it is haram.

You are one of the problems of today's society, you don't even know me yet you think I'm a liar and naive. Regardless how old you are or how knowledgeable you think you are about homosexualism, it don't automatically mean you are right. For example another country that executes gays is Uganda, not a Muslim country. What I'm trying to get you to understand is that it's not just a problem with Muslims but with the entire society and the fact that you think differently shows how naive and clueless you actually are!!

There is no question homophobia runs deeper among Muslims than it does among the "open minded" socialist hoard you call friends.

But to suggest your experiences represent the sum total of truth in this matter and that it could not be a "horrible" experience for a white person is fallacious.

If it's any comfort OP, Christianity has had a 500+ year head start on Islam, and we still struggle with it.

Dont worry buddy, god doesnt exist.

ANYWAY. If you have been living with your gf for 6 months, i think your old enough to take care of yourself. So nicely tell your mum to **** OFF. This is a joke, u cannot hate anyone for being who they are, especially if they are happy.
Interesting indication of the religious/non-religious ratio on this forum

That bill never was never enacted in Uganda.

And even if it was, one African nation is as nothing next to the dozen Islamic nations that execute or imprison gay people.

No doubt. But it's undeniably a worse problem amongst Muslims; if you deny that, you are arguing in bad faith

I'm not saying my experience represents the sum total of human experience on this matter. I am saying that I am experienced enough to know from gut instinct that the claim that this guy knows several people from non-religious households who had a horrible time coming out.. I can tell it's a lie.

Edit: And the ridiculous, homophobic Muslim responses on this thread are rather indicative of Islamic society as a whole, and at the same time totally out of step with their age peer group

TSR is not the place to ask, everyone will tell you to go do whatever you want, when in fact that's probably the best way to get yourself killed. People on these forums have no idea about other cultures :facepalm2:

Dude, what did you expect... It was adam and eve not adam and steve... Its kind of stupid that homos exist... It means females are not needed when it comes to sex... Or simply a kid may be scapegoated if he has 2 dads, and u dont have a place in your local islamic community if your gay so just start repenting and learn to love women... Its much more pleasurable and normal

    Posted from TSR Mobile
you automatically thinking gay is meaning man-man gay, even though OP is saying the word girlfriend and mum asking to get marry (this they only say to woman). but since you are automatically saying 'love woman' immediately,

this means you are gay, because you are yourself think and it was just dying to come out you post.
