Some religions don't allow them to gain interest.. so thats why some people don't really care.

I'll have about 1500 on the 12th plus a 500 overdraft. By the end of the month close to 1000 will be gone though.

Luckily I think I have a new job and have a bursary in mid-Feb.

About 1000. People in this thread need to start looking at opening a savings account for themselves.

They are low, but better than nothing, as you get in a current account.

Some current accounts pay interest. I'm not saying that most things are zero, but even ISAs are fairly rubbish once you pass year one of the introductory deals.

Unless you have huge amounts, it's hardly worth saving really. Better to buy things and trade them or have fun with it. This is not serious investment advice.

i like to keep more than a few hundred just in case i need to make an unexpected purchase/feel like being frivolous. wouldn't keep more than a grand in there though.
Same with me. It also means that when I do need to buy something expensive, (like I have done recently) I don't need to keep on moving money between accounts.

I'm 17 and have £9.66 in my current account.

A LOT more in a broker account, cash ISA and savings account.

Rent went out today so i'm now £300 into my overdraft!

Had around £2500 this time last year but 2 spells of unemployment (whilst still having £500 p/m in bills to pay) and my refusal to sign on has completely battered it. I'd planned to spend most of it on interrailing but it just wasn't to be.
