Its all mixed, but post grads are normally put with post grads not undergrads. And no all of Talybont is pretty much social
Hello! I've just got a few questions to ask about the accommodation.:
Is it offered to people on a first come first serve basis?
Will we get the email ( the late July/ August/September one) after results day once we have received the grades ? Or is there a chance we will receive it before?

I have chosen talybont south as my first choice accomodation because I like its location... between both campuses (im a medic), close to tescos as well as town and has sports facilities. I also chose it due to price and because I like the rooms.

Im just a little worried because everyone has said it is SO social, I am a social person and love to chat and stuff, but I do not drink, and I dont ever really party. I am really into getting good grades and doing well in my exams (I have worked so hard to get here). Is talybont south REALLY noisy all the time, or does it die down after the first month and become more managable.

I dont want SILENCE, I just mean like after 11pm it goes quieter so I can get some sleep on weekdays.

Hi. It is supposed to be the most social and what people mean by that is that taly south is the "party hall". According to some people they go out clubbing or to a party every night. I don't know how true that is, some people agree and others say it's not that bad.

Apparently taly in general is quite noisy a lot of the time because people go out every night, it's not like everyone goes out on one night and then that's it. Different halls and different flats and groups of people will go out on different nights, hence the noise.

As for does it die down, I think it depends on who you know. If they want to study too then it will to a certain degree but some other people will always be noisy. :-/ I have heard though that taly security is really good and if people are being really loud or noisy outside your window or in your flat you can ring them and they will ask the people to quieten down or move somewhere else.

I am having trouble deciding which halls to put first because I want it to be social and I don't mind clubbing or partying but I don't want to do it every night and I do actually want to sleep and study. :-/

    Hope this all helps. :-)

Hey guys, I'm starting in September but have visited my friend who is in taly north and a first year studying history.

I've been up on weeknights and weekends, and from what I've gathered taly South seems to be the noisiest, taly North and gate are a lot quieter, however you do get the odd loud group.

Walking through taly South there is always music going and people in the kitchens socialising, whereas North you can't always hear the music.

South would definitely be for the people who love socialising and going out the most, and North and gate for people who are slightly reserved. Wherever you go no one is going to judge you for not drinking/going out/being shy - we're all adults and don't need to judge!

    Hope this helps :-)

I am limited in where I can go because I need to be close to both campuses, so really taly was the best for me.

I will just have to invest in some earplugs!!!

I don't want to be the girl who always kills the party, but if I am seriously loosing sleep and the will to live over my flats mates loud music I would speak up and say something in a calm way.

The problem is I am applying so late and dont think I will get a room in court?? I might see if I can change to court now online and put court first and then north, then south!!

Just changed mine now, I dont honestly mind where I stay but would prefer to be somewhere less social where I could feel I fit in better...

so I have put them in order from Talybont court, Talybont Gate, liberty cambrian point, taly north, taly south and then down from there.

Im just wondering how applications are assessed though, do they go through everyones and then allocate their first choices if they can, then go onto everyones second choice in order etc. or do they go through each application individualy, going down the choice list there and then until an allocation is found?? I just worry that putting court (a very popular place) as my first choice with it only having 500 or so rooms I may not get it, and then I will end up sharing a bathroom or something etc. can someone enlighten me how its actually done?

Thanks for the help on this one, I have completely changed my choices now... I did like the rooms and the location of south but I couldnt be doing with crazy behavior such as loud music 24/7.

I have no put court, gate, liberty cambrian point and north in that order above south, but because south has more rooms I will probably still end up there, but its worth trying!!

answer to your first question is yes, and second answer is that you will receive the email as soon as you get your results which is beginning of August and then we start processing applications beginning of September.

    Thanks

Does this means that people with unconditional offers have their accommodation application processed first, and that they're more likely to get their first choice ?

OK lol, so Taly Gate is not made up of rich people its a mix tbf. Tbh Talybont itself will always be loud in general as a lot of first years go out most nights so there is always noise but to a level.

Talybont Court rooms are much nicer & bigger than the Taly NOrth ones.

And Libert Cambrian Point is its own separate halls which is also very nice and quite similar to Taly Court. MOreover, its got a ridiculous amount of high secuirty there 24/7 but Taly Court and Liberty Cambrian Point are exactly same quality wise.

Hi again, thanks for all the help!
Do you know anything about Liberty Cambrian Point and its social side?
Is it less social than Taly or full of international students who tend not to socialise?

Hey! Has anyone got any information regarding accommodation which isn't Taly? I'm specifically interested in Senghennydd Court and Gordon hall. They might not be as social as Taly but are they any good? Because I'm not sure if I want Taly but I don't exactly want a place where everyone is boring and/or everyone locks in their rooms to study and when they come out they don't say anything. I love socializing and I'm one of the most social people I know but I want the occasional quiet so I can read/relax.

Hi. I'm exactly the same as you for what I want, but have put taly and Liberty Cambrian point as my top choices. I think taly is what you make of it, if you want to be social you can, but if you want to stay in and read a book, study or watch a film you'll be able to. And as for watching a film you could make it a weekly thing with your friends or flat mates so you should get an early enough night if the film is put on early or if you watch the film later, you'll be able to read/ study earlier on. I don't know whether I'd recommend taly south just cuz it's the party hall, I don't know whether you'd get the quiet down time, or that much quiet time anyway.

As for other halls, I have heard Gordon is really quiet (it even says that on the accommodation website so it must be quiet) and I'd only go there if you're studying maths, physics, astronomy, engineering or computer science cuz it recommends you stay there if you're doing one of those subjects and some people, especially ones that take these kinds of courses, can be quite snobby about other subjects like humanities or other sciences. So it might not be the best place to go if you want somewhere quite social and you're not doing one of the subjects above.

As for Seng Court (aka Sen-ghetto apparently :-/ ) it houses lots of Welsh-speakers and lots of international students, who might not be that social. Most internationals don't tend to integrate or socialise, whereas others obviously do, it mostly depends on where they're from. So it's a risk. Other than that I don't know much about it.

Tbh, like any place you end up, it depends on the people in your flat, people on your floor and the people you meet. You might end up in taly south with a bunch of people who don't socialise at all even though it's the party hall. And you might end up with some real partiers at Gordon hall. But if you don't like the people you are living with, you can change halls and you could just go out and socialise with people on your course or people you meet through societies etc. I think you have to work out what you want from your accommodation, so ensuite or not, catered or self etc and from what's left decide from that.

Hope this helps, sorry for the long reply. :-/

You can make up to 23 choices!?!?

Can anyone recommend an amount in terms of accommodation choices to put down? I've put Taly South, then North followed by Court for my top three - is there much point to applying for more if I submit it now? I have no idea!! :-/

EDIT: Sorry it's just told me a minimum of ten, my mistake!

Applied for accommodation this morning, put Taly gate as my first choice followed by South, Court and North. Has anyone else put Taly gate as their first choice?
