Don't be silly, no serious commentator doubts that Soviet and Chinese government policies under the Stalinist / Maoist systems killed tens of millions of people. My query was on the items on the list, clearly whoever wrote it was wearing some blinkers about the crimes of non-Soviet states such as the US.

Just to be clear, the final death toll of the entire Vietnam war period was around the 4m mark and at least half of those were killed by US military action or associated deaths, probably more.

Nazi Germany was responsible for many of the deaths in Soviet Russia often attributed to Stalin - for example, Stalin may have been foolhardy and cynical in the extreme in first murdering his officer corps and then making peace with Hitler, but the actual slaughter that followed Barbarossa was mainly German in origin, even if it is often placed at Stalin's door. The figure given for Soviet victims would be much lower if it only covers the Great Purge and the forced Soviet relocations.

There have been many other non-Communist genocides and mass killings over the last century as well, which also do not appear on the list.
The point of the list was to highlight the death tolls cooked up by "People's Republics", I realise the figures are contentious amongst political ideologues. I myself would put the Nazi death toll in there, for instance. It's basically the same ideology, if a bit less inclusive

Yeah you've taken this thread too seriously.
You're right, the Mumsnet-like innocence of this thread is an amusing illustration of just how ideologically neutered the Left has got post-election. This is what they're reduced to!

So political forums should always be 100% serious and (presumably) right wing?

Avoid all of the leading sites then.
For those who aren't lunatics the distinction between the OP and say the green party manifesto is actually very difficult to understand.

Or, this thread is innocence as it's meant to be fun and light hearted.

Don't sweat yourself too much. There's lots of room to discuss Communism/Socialism and Englandistan on this forum. Cool your beans.

Brighton will be beneath the level of the Juncker radar, therefore it will escape scrutiny.

Think of the People's Republic of Brighton and Hove as one of those tiny mammals living alongside dinosaurs that somehow made it through the meteor impact and became, in the distant future, us.
Apologies for the ignorance. Is there some particular reason why they have choosen a Green representative?

It will be a call centre. The cool stuff all happens in London, New York and, er, cough, Zurich.

Working in an Amex call centre will be one long day of customers shouting at you about how bad the company is. I speak from my Dad's experience. :teehee:

The political climate in Detroit has been far to the left of most other states and many of the things they have done are things which the left wants or likes to do.

You can look at California of another state which has been controlled by the left for years and years. It is also going through serious problems right now due to left-wing big government policies.
When capitalism ravages communities, the state steps in to save them.

Communism might not be a successful ideology but it must have the best PR team in the world.

If you didn't notice I was using humour to make a serious point. The callous indifference that reds reserve for reminders of their ideology's death toll speaks volumes of course
For a start, left-wingers are not communists.

Can you please be objective for just a little bit? No one can be blamed for Detroit more than the politicians and unions who bankrupted and over-regulated their economy until everyone and everything productive left.

Capitalism didn't "ravage" Detroit. It was actually one of the richest cities in the world and booming due to Capitalism. It was left-wing politics that ravaged it.

Brighton was already a very green kind of place, I guess it was natural for the Green Party to do well there.

Remember, what Brighton does today, the rest of the country does tomorrow. :five:

One of the many things I admire about her is how well she's handled the job of being the party's only MP, she is consistently good-hearted but firm with interviewers, she makes excellent, well researched and well argued points, she doesn't pick fights with the big parties but holds her own and she uses clever tactics to make herself known.

She's really a model of how to be an MP from an insurgency.
