Have you guys not tried the self-employed route? I tried this several months ago and will never look back.

    - no one to judge you.
    - no interviews.
    - be your own boss.
    - work your own hours/days.

From what I've read this is a really good option for you.

However doing your own accounting until you can afford to pay one is actually quite hard. There are lots of laws you need to be aware of and marketing your business will either take lots of money or lots of self-confidence. OP might need to gain some confidence in a more secure role as an employee first. There's also the worry that having your own creation take a lot of time to take off could be difficult for someone who already suffers from low self-esteem.

There are quite a lot of people working as freelancers/small business start-ups without having the first idea about accounts and filing taxes and may run into some problems when they realise they haven't made the right NI and tax contributions. Worst case you get fraud charges, best case you reach retirement and you have little to no entitlement because you have gaps in NI contributions.
