With regards to the HMS Queen Elizabeth it already has the largest ship's company in the Navy, although I imagine HMS victory is being excluded from the list, unless an amount of the company has been temporarily transfered from Victory.

This defence review is better than I predicted but still terribly ill-thought-out, with the equipment purchases, decisions, and spending being bad decisions. The Kawasaki P-1 will add the requirement to retrain pilots, ground grew, and engineers; an additional cost that has not been covered. The two redeployments of the patrol boats leave Gibraltar defenceless against Spanish fishing vessels who illegally enter Gibraltar water, and there is a large increase in the number of troops for two services but there is no equipment costs to demand the large increases. Sonic weaponry research is a waste of money, the money could be used to research electromagnetic rail guns, lasers, and bunker buster missiles; all have more use in warfare.

The thing I didn't most interesting here is that this government as decided to employ spending at higher levels than those declared absurd, why the change of position?

It makes a bigger mockery of their budget because the figures do not add up with the figure for defence in it.

And I can only assume the pie chart is for RL spending and is thus irrelevant given they have not given trident a 50% funding boost anywhere.

Sending our largest ship down to Argentina would look like nothing more than a reactive decision and would play into the hands of their government and the international hand-wringing press-outlets. Furthermore sending our carrier south when you have promised to help our allies in the South China Sea means that we would be without the means to apply any useful military assets in that region.

Perhaps instead we should attempt to appease the Americans and prove our military alliance by instead investing our focus once again on Europe, and in stationing more 'heavy' (Tank/Armoured Vehicle) brigades in Europe and involving them on training exercises. Surely stationing troops in the Baltic states whilst being escalatory would also demonstrate to Putin that the UK as a nation was serious about defending its friends. Furthermore with our new carrier we could help provide C.A.S (Close Air Support) should it be required. Alternatively the carrier could be stationed with a Q.R.F ground contingent whilst also have a ready-squadron of fighters to patrol above the Baltic states to prevent anymore meandering Russian bombers.

Other than that this looks really well thought-out and well made. Good on you for putting lots of thought into it.
Perhaps one day i will gain the honour of producing my own defence policy.

    Best regards
    Francis.Ewan.Uquhart.
