    I think the responses are also gonna depend on the train line itself OP.

    Like I've found CrossCountry rails absolutely terrible crowding-wise (legroom ;//), first great western has been pretty okay tho etc

    I'd be surprised if you actually have multiple options, as most lines tend to be dominated by a monopoly now.

    But honestly the actual provider shouldn't matter too much, just try and get a very low price.
