    I was just referring to the concept itself, that's all. A bit cynical perhaps and don't want to spoil your fun.

    It's advertising. Like other advertising, it enables you to get something for nothing (think about local radio stations for an example).

    If the company Royal Mail are promoting it then it stands to reason they want to gain revenue from it either directly or indirectly by increased use of the post office. If I am wrong about that then tell me. I am always open to fair criticism. Maybe I've completely strayed of your intended subject.

    No, you're correct. Royal Mail increases use of their service (and possibly charge to include items) by giving advertisers a platform to show off their products. We, the end user are the audience they are targeting and in that sense get something for nothing.d

    As in my radio example, the radio station is Royal mail, the advertisers are the ones who put the stuff in the box and the listener is the Matterbox recipient. So, it's nothing new really, just a new way of doing the same thing.
