stumped between johnson and torres, as I see the vote is too. Johnson's was a great goal, but he was allowed alot of room by hull to do it. torres' was a goal indicative of what a great season he has had, what a top class player he is, and was a superb bit of football all round. and I say that as a united fan

Can't believe people actually have the audacity to say that Torres' goal is a fluke. Absolute injustice to the goal.

I'm not just saying this because I'm an Arsenal fan, but I could never nominate a goal that came about by a goalkeeping error as the Goal of The Season. Almunia really should have said that.
A lot of good goals come from goalkeeping errors eg Ronaldo's long range effort in the CL. The goalie should've done better with Bentley's shot, but it was well controlled and executed. I'm not sure if it's the best though.
Johnson swung and hoped for the best, so despite it being amazing, I prefer a controlled finish for goal of the season.

Torres. Undisputably and undoubtedly. The talent required to volley from that angle, with his back to goal is, put simply, unbelievable. Johnson's was brilliant yes, but hammering the ball in from miles is just never gonna compare to the class torres displayed.

Why isn't Zaki's volley vs Liverpool there, it was much better than Tuncay's!!

I went for Nando Torres' - absolute world-class finish.
A very close second was Glen Johnson's.
With either Geovanni's or Cole's or Giggs' or Fuller's in third lol.

Nice idea for a thread..

A lot of good goals come from goalkeeping errors
Well yes, but I wouldn't say the best goal of the season deserves to. If it was the best over the course of the season then it has to be good enough to go in on its own merits rather than courtesy of a goalkeeping error.

I'm going to have to sleep on it. Torn between Fuller and Cole. :coma:

Torres's was just a wild swing which could have ended up in row Z. The same goes for Bentley's and Johnson's which was more of a full back frenzy (jonnyofengland, 2009) sort of goal.
:woo:

I'm already being cited.

As to why...

Each goal is the winner of the MoTD Goal of the Month competition, and Zaki's was in October and deemed not as good as Bentley's. Not sure exactly who made that decision but there you go.
I think i'd have chosen Zaki>Bentley and I daresay that may have got my GotS.

Glen Johnson, no doubt

As a Man Utd fan though, bit disappointed not to see Kiko Macheda's clutchinating strike against Villa not in there

Over all competitions though, Ronaldo's strike against Porto?

If you didn't say Cole's; you're doing it wrong. Torres' had the best technique and Johnson's had the wow factor but Cole's didn't just leave the keeper helpless, it left half the Wigan team looking like mugs.

And because old meme always makes a post better, here's another example of doing it wrong.
