May as well get some money for him. We need a young and promising CB anyway, and buying a veteran, like Demichelis, is hardly going to be the toughest bit of business this summer. I'm sure there are tonnes of guys getting on a bit around Europe who wouldn't mind living in London for a year or two and sitting on the bench at the Emirates.I'll do it for free, tbh.
Demichelis is risky. He costed them the FA cup and pretty much the CL too. He's been quite a liability most of the season but I won't deny that he has improved a lot near to the end of it.

Well Vermaelen wasn't in our starting XI.
Because he's been at the club for a while and is a leader. But no major clubs around Europe have their captain on the bench for an entire season - he has to be starting.

Per's got it in the bag. Silly amount of caps for Germany, he's massive and is the closest thing to a leader we have in our squad.

And I wouldn't bet against us starting Arteta next season
Arteta needs to **** off and do his coaching badges.

But yeah, Arteta-Flamini will be the heart of our team next season. FML.

It's not so bad if Ramsey can keep fit. Arteta Ramsey has been ok at times. Not saying we should go with it though

Yeah but the problem is you won't find many good covering CB's who are happy to sit on the bench to begin with. Like you might get a CB who is calm with being that but that CB will be someone like Djourou. :mmm:
is that ronaldo's girl in your sig

I think Arsenal should learn from the fact their previous captains all leave Arsenal to not make one of their best players the captain.

Inside the emirates there's this wall I always walk past which has photos of all our previous captains. And I literally just shake my head as I walk past it seeing all of our recent ones. RVP, Cesc, Gallas, Vieira and now possibly Vermaelen.

It's not even the fact that you are selling players to your rivals, its that you are doing it when it wouldn't hurt you one bit to keep him. You have how many millions in the warchest? My Arsenal mates keep telling me something like 100m. So what's the 6/7m that this sale generates gonna help with lol. Better off keeping him as he's not even a bad player - if you don't believe me on that then you'll see this point proven next season. Plus now you have to look for an extra CB on top of DM, RB and CF.

I respect and adore Wenger but he needs to stop sending players off to teams around you; or at least ship them off overseas. Mourinho wouldn't give you Ba because he knew it would improve your team. Ba: their 3rd choice striker. But with Verm that'll be your 3rd former captain to go to a rival along with Fab and RVP in recent years. This just makes me realise how ****ing well we did to keep Suarez off you and Gerrard off other clubs over the years.

And with Fabregas, even though Wenger is correct in saying he is surplus as of now, you still should have bought him back. I can guarantee a time will come when Rambo and Wilshere and probably Ozil are all simultaneously injured next season and you guys will be crying out for a player like Fabregas again. Yeah he wouldn't be as cheap as some developing youth player but thats beside the point, you have the money and he's easily one of the best players in his position so he'd improve your team immediately.
    Good post.

Dont agree with Fabregas though. Arsenal tend to have bad injury problems but it is a mistake to think that last season's midfield crisis was in any way typical. Ramsey and Ozil are actually not injury prone at all, and then you have the likes of Wilshere/Cazorla without even mentioning Rosicky/Flamini or Diaby!

How about in Jan when Wilshere, Fabregas, AOC, Cazorla, Rosicky, Flamini, Diaby are all chilling on our bench? You think that is a stable long term outcome?

AOC and Wilshere need game time to develop especially, but they'll get very very little if Cesc came.

And even wrt injuries, we've just signed the Germany national team's fitness coach who apparently is one of the best around and Wenger has brought in consultants to improve the training ground's facilities so we are tackling that problem directly rather than just assuming it'll continue and adding even more depth.

Finally if you consider what Arsenal lacked last season, it definitely want a player like Fabregas, we lacked powerful runners and Fabregas is very far away from that. So I hope we buy a LW instead who will provide pace and power so that Cazorla can be saved as a rotation option at CM.

Wenger's a lovely fella, and he was distraught by Cesc's departure. Soi It wouldnt surprise me if he felt quite good telling Cesc to sling his hook last week tbh, about time the shoe was on the other foot.

Don't be silly, a signing like that would show ambition to finish higher than 4th.
