Ox has pace. Plus there are ways around not having pace and yet not playing a high line. It's Wenger's fault essentially (I edited to say this).

It wasn't outright a lack of a DM, it was mostly complacent dispossessions, lazy fullbacks and a high line.

Not really how it was at all. The reason we played a high line was because we needed to be winning the ball higher up the pitch as all our players with pace were injured.
We offered no counter attacking threat and so had no choice but to press up the pitch where we continuously got caught out on the counter. Had we had a fit Walcott and Sanchez last season we could have sat deeper and countered ourselves. Full backs didn't help us last season on the counter, but it certainly wasn't the lack of a DM that led to those mullerings.
    That's half the reason.

Fullbacks pushing high up were a main part of your play, as you had no fast wingers and you played narrow football, you relied on width as teams would push up and play narrow, they win the ball back around the half way line and you're toast on the counter because your fullbacks are too high up the pitch. The 6-0 in particular highlighted that.

the DM could have helped, because if somebody is running at the team with pace the DM can help cover the fullback that has gone too far forward, but not if that DM is Arteta. So SUG has a point.

Don't underestimate the value of a top no.6 in the teams style of play. Chelsea's system e.g. can rely on sitting deep as well as pushing high up, because Matic is a good DLP, but as a pure DM he's as good as they come.

Played against Liverpool in the thrashing and against Everton and City too, Walcott played against City in the thrashing...

Wenger had options as well. Football isn't a case of counterattack or high line.

City game wasn't really a thrashing. Poor defensive display but a good counter attacking show. Who else in the league managed to get 3 goals at the Etihad?

No it's not really. Arsenal played at a very high level still the very end and were in that game until until Fernadino scored. Conceding 4 goals in 20mins is a thrashing. I don't see the City game in the same light because we showed good offensive potential

If you look at the score you would assume its a thrashing but if you watched the match both teams showed a poor defensive display and it could of been a closer game if not for missed chances and wrong referee decisions.

One thing is for sure, I am personally NEVER going to use any BT services again (already use none of them), clearly controlled by northern morons.
    Wow, you really showed them.

Matter of personal principle. They are anti-Arsenal, I have Arsenal in my blood. Therefore they are anti-me. So, therefore, **** them and their subpar service.

    Are they really though?

I do sympathise a little with you guys with regards to all the random hate on arsenal.
But you do play up the victim status a great deal.

The 5-1 thrashing was the best game BT showed last season.
You expect them not to advertise it in case it hurts arsenal's feelings?

To be fair they've also released one of the 6-0... Suppose the same points apply though.

They've shown the Arsenal Chelsea game as well and no other teams feature in these ads so it kinda obvious they're targeting Arsenal. These ads are pretty classless if you ask me you'd never catch Sky doing stuff like that. But I've come to expect this sort of thing because people are jealous of Arsenal.

The ads just seem like pointless digging at Arsenal, wouldn't it make more sense to show a range of games from different leagues they broadcast?

The fact is that if you're going to let your rivals thrash you 5-1 and 6-0 you have to accept all the abuse that comes your way. I just hope we redeem ourselves in the big games next season.

The City game in which we were cheated out of 2 legitimate goals and Milner dived for their pen? (should have been 5-5)

My point was he wasn't really at any point fully 100% fit and in form last season and even when he was playing he didn't play as a winger very often. He mainly covered Ramsey when he was out in the B2B/DMF role.

The only 2 games they have made any reference to are the 5-1 and 6-0 games. Bear in mind I'm pretty sure they showed the FA cup final last year, could have used that, no?

    Well, not really imo.

Last year in the big games you played a very high line. This was to negate the fact that you didn't have a pure DM (or because Wenger is a retard, which is more likely). When you play a high line there's less space on the pitch and essentially all of your standard midfielders become the DM at different points. This is because they're working in a compressed space, and so they're not too far away from tracking the run/doubling up with the fullback whenever it's required, ie doing the normal DMs jobs.

Whereas when you're playing a deeper system, there's a lot more space in front of the defence for the opposition to play in. Different midfielders are then assigned different roles and have to stick to them, because they're further apart. This means a specialist DM is needed.

Look at Mascherano, as conventional a DM as they come, playing for Argentina in the WC, and then Busquets/Schweinsteiger, much more unconventional ones playing for Pep's Barca/Bayern.

^that's how it was explained to me anyway.

The issue with your suicide tactics was that a) your fullbacks, especially your left back, were awful at coming back on the counter, or at choosing when to go forward, b) Mertesacker just does not fit into a high line, c) Arteta didn't do anything at all - didn't push up properly because he can't, and staying deep does **** all really in a high line because it makes it easier to beat the press and d) the ball was given away in compromising positions far too easily. Opinions?
The high line was played because we had absolutely no pace in the team in attack.

We could of either camped in our own half and parked the bus or do what wenger did and push every player up the pitch and try to control the games at Stamford bridge, anfield, goodison etc this was an absolutely awful idea because at the bridge and goodison we had an injury crisis so we were trying to control their game in their half with a make-shift team and got battered. If we'd parked the bus vs Liverpool we'd have lost anyway IMO just not 5-1 but against chelsea and Everton we made of had a more respectable score line

The problem with it was that any ball we lost in midfield teams were running straight at our backline. It was worst in the chelsea game they were constantly breaking with 3on2s

The Liverpool game was just awful set piece defending. Ozil giving his typical big game performance and also coutinho was great imo

I pretty much agreed with this irt my point about not signing a pure DM. Not quoting SUG here cause I know the account will probably be banned by the morning
