6th form = year 12 and 13 = JC1 and JC2

lower sixth= JC1 and upper sixth=JC2.

i think she just started upper sixth in september while i just started lower sixth.

i go to a local comp. so there are no singaporeans as well. In fact only 5 orientals that I can count. i'm in the southwest near the bournemouth-poole area.

yeah, what subjects are you taking and what are your future plans? I'm guessing university applications are the talk of year13s at this point of time.
What exactly are all these comprehensive, state, grammar, FE schools about? I have zilch idea!

Ehh Nutter you remembered! Yeah I'm just staying at Brum for a while before I head to Bristol.. We went to Bullring today aha. I didn't get anything because everything I wanted was beyond my budget

About packing, er I can't help you because I've got to ship 20kg of stuff over when I wasn't even intending to. And make sure you weigh your luggage, mine was 15kg over at first. Gah.
You mixed Nutter and me up! :grr: :p:

For those taking SQ, just a secret (or not) they allow you 5kg extra even though they say its 20KG or something like that. (this is for economy class of course) raffles and first have better deals. And you are allowed 7kg on board the flight so all in all you can have 32kg worth of stuff.

Comprehensive means they have to accept anyone.
Selective means they get to choose.

State means governemnt school.
Public means fee-paying and the headmaster is part of some council or something. (eg. Eton)
Private is private, dont have to explain that.

Grammar schools are state schools that are seletive and good schools.
FE schools are further education schools means they do some vocational courses plus alevels or just vocational courses, it depends.

thats basically it.

generally,
public which is more like the raffles and hwa chong of singapore. -> quite selective.

while private is more like St Francis Methodist. -> pay money for a place.

"Selective" doesn't mean anything by itself, except that the school has the right to accept students at its own discretion and based on a list of factors.

It usually goes with another term as well, usually comprehensive i.e. selective comprehensive, for one.

Public schools are selective as well, after all.

That's what I've been told anyway.

But if you look at Zinc's post above...

Comprehensive means they have to accept anyone.
Selective means they get to choose.
A school can't possible be selective and comprehensive.

Or maybe i'm just missing something.
