Training with one hand

I love this man already...
I have high hopes for him. He's due back at the end of September - wonder if we'll see him play in the Derby game (league cup) on 20 September or we've got Swansea and Hull and then we're into the October international break. Can't see us throwing him in against Man Utd in his first game?

International breaks upset me

Sakho, Ilori and Markovic are likely to stay. All 3 unlikely to play for the 1st team.

Balotelli completes medical at Nice but Nice and Liverpool remain in discussions.

I'm sure that will change over time with training and injuries to the first team re the first 3. Surprised we've not managed to send Ilori and Markovic on loan though.

Balotelli will be gone. We know he's going on a free next summer so we won't want him at the club for the rest of this season, even if it costs us more money.

Balotelli to Nice, free transfer completed. We also didn't have to pay Balotelli off.

£16m loss on Balo, at least he's not a wage burden now.

We only really paid his wages for one year since he was at AC Milan last season. Probably a waste of 20mil in the end but often crap players get longer contracts and then their wages eat up plenty.

We've done a decent job in getting plenty of squad players we don't want off our books for once..

So that's the transfer window closed and I think this is what our squad currently looks like (also in order of pecking order to start):

GK: Karius, Mignolet, Alex Manninger
RB: Clyne, Alexander-Arnold*
LB: Moreno, Milner*
CB: Lovren, Matip, Klavan, Sakho
CM: Can, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Grujic, Lucas, Stewart
AM: Firmino, Mane, Coutinho, Lallana, Ojo
ST: Origi, Sturridge, Ings

*Gomez to provide cover at fullback once fit

It's a pretty streamlined squad of 17-20 players with a few other fringe players..

Not sure if it is good enough for top 4 considering how much more other teams around us have spent and improved.

In all honesty your squad looks pretty average. Most top 4 teams are capable of a title challenge and you look nowhere near that with this squad.

Klopp would do an amazing job to actually put you in the top 4 or title challenge.

Really the fitness of Sturridge again is going to be what potentially gets you into top 4. Coutinho's up and down form is not enough and well Wijnaldum, Henderson and Can need to step up. It's not a bad midfield, just not as good as Chelsea's, City's, Arsenal's, Spurs or United's.

If we go by squad in comparison to the general top 6.

GK(weaker than the whole of the big 6 clubs)
RB, Stronger than City and possibly United/Chelsea depending on who they use there
CB, Stronger than none of the big 6.
LB, hahahahahahahaa
CM, easily weakest of the big 6.
DM, do you even have one?
Wings/AM, Stronger than Spurs and even that's debatable.
ST, better than Arsenal.

It's not even a stacked squad of average players that you can rotate over a season either. If that was the case you could always rotate where necessary to play the players when they're fresh.

Saying that you have no europe, which probably is the reason why he's not stacked the squad.

Well it's a good thing that football isn't played on paper so Klopp really has to get the team working as a solid unit this season otherwise it will just be another mid table finish (although a 5th or 6th place finish should be minimum). Lack of European games is looking like a blessing now though otherwise we would have been ****ed.

I agree our squad lacks the individual quality of the top 6, however we proved last season we can still be successful with teamwork and cohesion. I'm sure many people will mock us last season but we still got to a domestic and European final (beating superior teams such as United and Dortmund along the way), and even though we didn't turn out victorious, it's still a great achievement.

Our biggest weakness is consistency.
We've beaten Chelsea, Arsenal and City away since Klopp took over. On our day we can be absolutely unplayable, but as a fan you have no idea which Liverpool performance you're about to see.

That's nothing to do with player quality - if we can add consistency in to our performances, there's absolutely no reason we can't make top 4. It's just a massive setback when you tear Arsenal apart in 20 minutes, then get embarrassed by Burnley the week after...

I think we'll be alright. You have big squads for long season. A lot of players didn't get very far in international tournaments this summer so won't be fatigued and then we're playing few games too. Do we need a squad of 25? Probably not, which is why it looks like Klopp has focused on around 17-18 players.

Yes there are some weaknesses on paper but Klopp must have an idea of what he wants. He's had 10 months to assess the squad and then also been very select in his transfer business.
