Hey peeps!

1) what do you guys mean by a potential 'comet' question?

2) does anyone know which past paper that 'capacitor bullet' question came up on?

No probs.
Yeah did do core 4 today, best paper I've had so far which is good.
DE? What do you mean DE? Kind of forgetful, remind me.
Yeah I got K as 4. Loved that question! I know a lot of people would find that hard, but I found that question quite easy!

Which exam board were you on?

do we need to know why it works?

i can't remember anything for this lol need to do so much revision in 1 day

Smoke alarm: (what i can remember)

Alpha radiation in smoke alarm allows a current to flow. Smoke particles come into the alarm and scatters the alpha radiation, current stops flowing and so the alarm goes off

Americium - 241 emits Alpha particles

Alpha particles ionise the air in the alarm.

A current flows in the circuit.

When smoke enters the alarm, the charged particles stick to the smoke particles and the current in the circuit decreases.

When the current drops below a certain threshold, the alarm goes off.

difference between homogeneous and isotropic?
Homogenous - same in all directions
isotropic - uniform density

Alpha radiation in smoke alarm allows a current to flow. Smoke particles come into the alarm and scatters the alpha radiation, current stops flowing and so the alarm goes off
Alpha particles ionise air which causes current to flow
Smoke particles adsorb alpha radiation so air is not ionised
Current stops which is detected and the alarm sounds

difference between homogeneous and isotropic?
Homogenous: content is the same throughout {?}
Isotropic: looks the same in all directions

Remember youre doing this for yourself. You didn't spend last two years in college/sixth just to not revise on the last two days and lose stupid marks because you didnt revise it.

On the other hand, maybe its better to take a day off today and just revise tomorrow, you usually cant force it
