I would love to know what the average wait time is. I did ask them in an email, but I suppose they are extremely busy and don't have the time to waste on such things with so much work to be doing.
Does anyone know how much different the assessment criteria are for mature applicants? I know only that they accept what I have, but not yet met anyone else in my position. Having already had two rejections, I'd like not to be waiting (potentially 3+) months anxiously for another

So I got this long ass email from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Science....
It was the longest email I have received from any university with whopping 5 solid paragraphs, telling me how amazing Durham is

It got me a bit excited, I thought I'd won a scholarship or something...but nope

    For reference:

A-level Singapore Higher predicted: AAAA/A (there is no A* given)

Aha I don't mind the long explanation, its nice to understand it a bit more so I can offer support to my friends who are US applicants! It all sounds so hit or miss, a lot more down to how likeable you are than if you are actually a suited applicant. Do you find in the US that more emphasis is placed on who you are (or your family are)/what you've done outside the classroom than in the UK? Because I know in the UK the unis really really don't care about legacies or who your parents are aha
You have to be academically qualified for the uni; the rigor of your classes and the grades you received are the most important part of the app. Admissions officers won't look twice at your app if it seems like you won't be able to cope/up to par with classes at that university. At the vast majority of US universities test scores and grades are enough to get you in the door, problem is that the competitive ones have way too many qualified applicants, so they look to what you can bring to campus being academics--you as a person and your experiences.

'Legacy' status generally only helps significantly if your parent has donated a TON of money to the school. Otherwise, maybe a teeny boost but not much. Legacy aside, who your parents are will only help if you're. say, Malia Obama
