    Hi,
When do the positions get published ? and how many time a year?
I've been trying to get my head around this STP for a while but it seems too complicated and each web page takes me to many other web pages and I get lost!! they all seem to say detail the same information but in a different way!!!!
The thing is, I'm a biomedical engineer with about two years of overseas experience and I've been meaning to join the NHS but don't really know how. I'm new to the UK this is why I'm so lost!!

    Hi Amink,
The stp opens vacancies once a year. The deadlibe for aplying this year has passed. Look at this site from January next year http://nshcs.org.uk/stp-recruitment.
As you have experience already, you can try to apply directly to an open vacancy. You can find these on the Nhs jobs website throghout the year.
    Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hey unfortunately you have missed the intake of this year. Applications open every January on the NSHCS website (http://www.nshcs.org.uk/stp-recruitment this is the definitive site to use for STP information) where you have to fill in an application then sit online tests. There is no other way to apply to the STP so you will unfortunately have to wait until next January. However it is possible to apply as an internal candidate (I don't actually know a great deal about this though), it may be possible if you look for jobs at a different level you could be able to apply as an internal candidate next year, but I think you need to be supported by your department.

I would say though that I know someone who applied directly to a job without going through the STP and because of her experience they gave it to her, so it could possibly be worth applying to jobs directly rather than going through the stp.

    Good luck!!

    Thanks a lot!
    I lost my chance
But I'm currently doing an MSc so maybe waiting till next year will turnout to be more practical.
I do apply to jobs directly all the time but still nothing was successful
So I'm waiting for a volunteering opportunity.

Best of luck to all of you!

Anyone travelling by trains to interviews today, check your trains. Just seen on the news that there are signalling problems at Birmingham New street.

    Good luck everyone!

We were allowed to take our bags into the interview room and leave them at the side last year.

What are alternatives to the STP if you want to get into clinical/biomedical engineering in the NHS?

How did everyone find the interviews today? Four weeks seems such a long time until we hear back! Am sure it was much faster last year..

Finally decided to stop lurking! I applied last year but never commented on here.

Also interested to hear peoples reactions to the general science questions!! They were a definite shock last year!

I had an interview for vascular last year and have interviews for Cardiac and Vascular this year.

Good luck!! Which is your preferred specialism??

What sort of crazy questions did you get last year??

I have an interview tomorrow - does anyone who has had an interview either this year or previous years think that getting into Adderley Park station 30 minutes before I need to be there is reasonable?

It says it takes 18 minutes to walk (I'll probably do it in less that that), but I was wondering whether I'm likely to get lost finding the place we need to be??

I think everyone had the same crazy questions, elephants, cats, mars and the family tree.

Preferred specialism is Cardiac but annoyingly that interview is first so i'll be more prepared for the Vascular one, at least for general science. And maybe leadership and values and behaviours if they don't change those questions either.
I would be surprised if they didn't change the questions around as otherwise surely it would give an advantage to those that have 2 interviews?? They probably have a "pool" of questions to choose from, I guess some may be the same, but I would have thought most would be different. IF anyone knows different please do let us know!!

I'm keen on cardiac too, shame the locations aren't really too great!!

I'm pretty sure the general science questions are the same for everyone which is why you're asked not to talk about the questions with anyone else after your interview but not sure about the others.

I know, the locations are pretty dire. I'm just going to rank them all and deal with the question of whether I want the job enough to move to that location if I get to that point.

Yeah not a bad idea, I've based them more in reverse order, as in started at the bottom with where I don't think I'm keen on and worked up to the top, ended up with some places near the top that I have never considered living before - errrr hello Worcester, where are you exactly???

Where are you thinking as top?
